5th September is when India celebrates Teachers' Day. Every other countries around the globe celebrate Teachers' day on different dates to pay tribute and respect to their teacher. We Indians celebrate the birth date (5 September 1888) of the second President of India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as a Teachers' Day. Though schools and colleges are full of students' activities to celebrate this day, tomorrow the day coincides with Ganesha festival and will be a holiday. I wish all my teachers a HAPPY TEACHER'S Day!!

I've just checked Wikipedia. It has nothing to do with India, though. "World Teachers' Day, held annually on October 5 since 1994, commemorates teacher organizations worldwide." I was a teacher in Germany for 40 years but can't remember that we ever had festivities on that day. In our part of the country, the summer holidays aren't over yet anyway. Teachers will meet again only in one week's time.
