In 1967 I was working as a waiter at The Brass Rail in NYC on 47th street--by February I was nearing the scales at 300 pounds--the picture below was the last 'fat' picture I took the previous year--on a Wednesday night in March I had overdosed on food--a triple decker sandwich from The Stage Deli, a large pizza from a neighborhood pizzeria and drinking at all the bars between 72nd and 75th streets--before going up to my apartment I had bought a half gallon of ice cream and a package of cookies--an hour later I had decided I couldn't live this way anymore--hating myself, the way I looked--the drinking and the fact that a 2 year relationship had ended and I knew it was my fault--all combined to make me think I would be better off not living--I didn't sleep a wink that night and at 8 a.m., feeling heavy in many ways, I walked out of my apartment and made a decision that would change my life! In this picture I weighed 240 pounds--within 6 months I had put on 48 pounds and stopped getting on the scale!

Have fun with it. If it makes you happy, then why not? It's not up to others to judge what's right for you or not. Diet or not to diet, that's your call.
