"If you concentrate on what you don't have....”

. “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough” ? Oprah Winfrey .............. Yes, but you know what? It's easy for someone like Oprah to say that.. In the early days of her career , I'm sure she was focused on everything she didn't have that she wished she had.. And now she's got everything.. I think, the secret of the rich is to have more and more to end up with more.. But they tell the rest of us to just be happy with what we have .. I think, if you concentrate on what you don't have, you'll work hard to have them and you can be thankful then for what you have which will enable you having more in the end..And because you have a lot of investments, you'll end up having even more, and more without working as hard.. Just like Oprah and the other rich people like her.. right?.. Bess ..

I think it is more of making the most of what we have now but still strive in achieving our goals. It is like finding the silver lining if the circumstances are not good. That is how I interpret what Oprah said.

For me , if i concentrate on what i don't have , it will make me feel miserable . I better concentrate on what i have and enjoy it . As to what you don't have work more , to be able to have them .

I grew up concentrating on what I didn't have .. mainly a "home" .. so I worked so hard for it and all the things in it .. I'm very grateful that I no longer feel that "i don't have"...

Oprah is super rich so it is hard to believe her when she said that. But if I hear those words from someone who practically has not much in life but still contended and happy, then I would believe for sure.

I get you.. When I was growing up living in poverty, I have nothing in my mind but to get focused on what I don't have which is mainly a home where I feel secure and will never go to bed with empty stomach .. I focused on what I didn't have and worked hard to have them ... I can now say, I am grateful for what I have ..I want no more ... I'm sure Oprah who claimed to have grown up in poverty, have focused on the things she din't have and worked hard to have them until she's got all the things she wanted and more... I would probably continue to have more if I had the same opportunity she had.. But because I din't, I'm happy and contented now...

At my age I definitely prefer to focus on what I have and be thankful for. What I don't have, I probably don't need!

There is a lot of truth in your post. I've never heard a poor person say it's okay to have no money.

I take her words by this way " Be contented with what I have, enrich it, and the rewards of my hardwork will follow" because if I will think of the things that I dont have like 1 million pesos then how can I ever start my dream business? But if I will be thankful that I have 1 thousand pesos, I can start a small business that can be my ladder to success that Im aiming.

I really have everything that I want so I don't do either. I am not rich but I want for nothing and I need nothing else. After I lost everything in a house fire I learned what is really important, love, family and home, and home is where the ones you love are.

When I was young it was good to concentrate on what I didn't have, and to strive to get it. Now I appreciate what I do have, and there's no need to strive any more.

I agree that we should be grateful for what we have in life. I have heard about so many people who have everything they want but aren't happy. Money doesn't buy happiness.

yeah its right but i think its apt for lesser distraction ,one should have dreams to follow then invest in the dreams by all the energy one has certainly we can have all the pleasures of life

I agree, because being contented makes one feel that everything around her is enough to make her happy.

It works both ways. I am thankful and happy with what I have in life. There are so many people who are much worse off but if want something I will work hard to make that happen. I am not envious of others and what they have.
