When buying shoes, the only part that I pay attention is the sole

I always choose shoes based on the sole. I like rubber soles, and I will use my hands to rub on the soles to make sure that they are not slippery. I like soles that are stitched instead of glued to the shoes since we have rainy days almost every alternate day. I cannot afford to have the shoes disintegrate on me when I am halfway home. The only issue is that shoes that are comfortable with rubber soles stitching and made of leather are expensive. It is hard to find a pair of good shoes at less than a hundred dollars even with deep discount.

I am Italian, so I love Italian shoes, made of leather with a rubber sole stitched, flexible and not slippery. You are right, they are expensive, but I have shoes that are 10 years old and still good.

Do you often replace the sole? If the soles are rubber, and you do a lot of walking, they will wear out.

@LadyDuck Wow, no wonder you say the shoes are expensive. It is expensive enough to have rubber soles, and adding a layer of leather to make leather soles definitely increase the cost.

@scheng1 I usually buy shoes with a leather soles, only the heel is then covered with rubber to prevent to slip. The soles are never replaced, but repaired.

I like to get shoes as you describe, but with the addition of a strengthening shank in the sole, so I don't feel the stones through the sole.

I do not have this problem in my country since most are pavement. I think that is one good thing about life in the city, The minus point is that the air is not as pure as the air in the forest.

If you are buying very good leather shoes, the shoes will definitely look nice on you. Some shoes are so well made that they can give you a classy look.

That is exactly what I do.Now there are varieties of soles and some of them are slippery and wear down soon at the heel .

Usually the good quality ones can last a couple of years even when you walk a few hours a day. These are rather costly!

Shoes are expensive, although I never pay that much. What I look for is a good thick sole and a high arch that fits well. That makes a good walking shoe for me.

Yes, I like a thick sole too, especially when it is a rubber sole. Rubber sole gets thinner and thinner as we walk, It sure does not slip easily. Since my area rains practically every other day, I do not want to buy shoes that will turn slippery on rainy days. I like shoes that breathe too, so that my shoes will not smell even after 14 hours of wearing.

@scheng1 Right, I like thick rubber soles with a high in step and breathable tops. No slippery soles for me. I walk a lot and I want something sturdy.

I go for the colors and also for the sole. I like to buy shoes in a thrift store.

I seldom buy shoes from thrift store. The shoes from thrift stores are not meant for walking, and many of these shoes do not survive a heavy downpour when the shoes get very wet.

@scheng1 There are branded shoes you can find in a thrift store. Last time we bought Nike run for only 500 pesos last week we bought Asics for only 180 pesos. Good sole and looks like new but it was a second hand shoes.

I need shoes that bend when walking. I cannot even understand shoes that have wooden soles.

Of course. That is why I like leather shoes with rubber soles. Rubber is flexible, and it is not slippery. I have the confidence when I wear good leather shoes that I will not fall when the ground is wet and slippery.

Not that hard to find, but you have to find those brands meant for special needs. I think you can check out Happy Walker. They have shoes for all kinds of feet problem, and they will customize the insole. I think it is rare for shoes to cater to the needs of diabetic patients.
