I was reading one of my Genealogy groups on facebook and the conversation started about horrible names on their family trees. I started reading the names and some of them were hysterical... The one that started it off was Owl Basher... another was Howard Poops, a surname... Hatevil, a Nimrod which was quite a common name according to others who piped in, The last names to be included was a set of twins named Mertie and Bertie... I have only one that comes to mind. Her parents named her Laura which I thought was a nice name... but her entire life, she went by Leany... ?? Not sure what was wrong with Laura?? So, do you have any odd names on your family tree?? Can anyone top those names lol?? Source: Geneaology Chit Chat :)

When my last son was born, my husband and I struggled to come up with a name we liked. Someone suggested that name him after an Uncle. Well, I have some uncles who have weird names like, HIRAM, Commodore, Seymore, and my husband had an uncle named Thoburn. There was also Virgil and none of these names were something that I would name a little baby.

We avoid to name a child using the name their elder member of their family used.

We have a friend whose surname is Joy. His name is Dixie and his brother is Sunshine. I think their parents must have been hippies.

I'm signed up to start a Basic Genealogy class next week for six weeks. I saw that you have been studying genealogy for ten years. What suggestions and sources do you use? I'm really interested in tracing some ancestry and don't really know where to begin. All the genealogy sites cost money and I wonder if there are other sources.

These names are awful, but I knew a family who named their kids Fantasy and Ecstasy, but the point being I don't get it. I'm cool with being unique and all but there's a point where someone must stop and think about the children or something.
