a standard response

A chap got on the bus this morning. Morning, good weekend? he said to his bus buddy biddy. It was okay, but it went by too quickly, she replied.
She stole my line!
That is my standard response to similar questioning.
How was your weekend? It was okay, but it went by too quickly.
How was your holiday? It was okay, but it went by too quickly.
How was Christmas? It was okay, but it went by too quickly.
Why do we always say the same thing? If we all know that everybody's weekend/holiday/evening/Christmas was okay, but it went by too quickly, why do we insist on asking? We could simply forego the pleasantries and merely assume. Even when we have bad weekends with the cat being sick on our favourite top, or the washing machine flooding the kitchen, we still answer with, It was okay, but it went by too quickly.
So really, there's no need for small talk.

it was okay...but went by too quickly...lol 
Actually no, I usually manage to savor the experiences...especially if it is a holiday like Christmas....obviously not all weekends will be fun and thrilling....and on bad days...i kinda WANT them to go by quickly.

Oh, I do savour my weekends and holidays. It's just that most people seem to have that standard response, regardless of how good or bad their weekend was. :)

My weekend was okay enough but I wouldn't say it went by too quickly, rather it took its own sweet time to pass by.

I had a relaxing stress free weekend which was just fine with me. It was just what i needed. I feel refreshed and ready to take on the new week ahead.

these days i look ferward to the weekend bein' o'er coz then i've some peace 'n quiet :) the 'small talk' 'tis jest pleasantries to let folks know they matter i reckon??
