So I've mentioned I love rain and how much I love when we get some but there is always a downside, those pesky painful stickers, around here we call them goatheads. Here is a link if you've never seen them before, and be grateful if you haven't. I've added a shot of Ally as she's smiling at me while we were playing, She's the one I feel so sorry for because she always gets them in her paws.

Oh gosh, I remember these as a kid - I haven't seen them around except when we go hiking sometimes. I hated when they somehow got into my shoe/sock! I can only imagine how it must be for Ally who'd get 'em straight in the paw - ouch!

She's even brought them in the house so that I can't go barefoot for very long in here. I'm scraping the top soil of all areas where I find them and throwing it away, I hope it helps a little so that we don't get so many next year.

@rebelann Are those sticker things actually the seeds? They're pretty smart if they are - they know how to get around!

Worse @much2say they are seed pods and each one can have up to 1100 seeds in it.

ugh, i despise those goatheads! luckily (knockin' wood) all the efforts i made last year slowed 'em down quite a bit. the pup here 'tis prone to pickin' 'em 'p, too. i feel fer ms. ally if'n she's a tender footed 's this pup.

@rebelann yepperz, critters sure do 've the tendency to spread 'em 'round. the hubs's prone to doin' such, too. he'll not clean off the bottoms 'f his boots. 'course luckily he's usually the one to find 'em when he's barefoot here'n the house....

I do hate weeds too and I am afraid to walk in a place full of weeds. My wild imagination is always running. I am afraid I could step on a frog or a snake.

I have good news for you, both frogs and snakes will run away from you before you had a chance to step on them. Those stickers however just lay there waiting to pierce my tender foot.

@rebelann Oh, but I have always watched a snake will bite when it sees someone move.

Snakes generally will slither in the opposite direction of the vibes they feel, they are afraid of humans more than we are of them @annierose

Poor Ally, I went out yesterday afternoon to pull out weeds, but there is an invasion of mosquitoes, I cannot stand them.

If you put some peppermint essential oil on some of the key areas of your body they will leave you alone, in fact you can even use vicks.

If only I could @Ritu96 but I can't afford to move so I'll just have to pull them when I see them. I also need to scrape off the topsoil and throw it away so that I get all the seeds.

She's learned to simply limp on 3 legs when she gets one in a paw but I think she's the reason I have so many of those plants now.

@rebelann I removed some burrs from Doodles recently, then ripped the plants out of the ground. Wouldn't want more! We don't want Ally to be in pain. Any animal for that matter!

She says thanks for the sentiment ..... I'll be doing a lot of top soil scraping then I'm buying a big bag of bermuda grass seeds, that will help choke them out ....... now I'll get some real exercise when I have to mow

I remember you saying about those weeds in your yard before - I'm pleased that we only have dandelions etc.

I would be too especially since dandelions are edible if you don't use herbicides or pesticides.
