What a waste of a good word!

Just when we needed a word for "the act of leaving the house for work with a piece of toast and a cup of tea in one's hand", the ideal candidate has been assigned to the painful and tortuous process of Britain leaving the EU. According to Theresa May, "Brexit means Brexit", which tells us absolutely nothing. It is not even a definition, far less an explanation of how it will happen and what deals and conditions she proposes to make! I would have much preferred it if the word had already been taken by a high-fibre breakfast cereal guaranteed to "keep you regular" or even as the trade name for one of those little hammers designed to smash toughened glass! What words do you think ought to be reassigned to far more appropriate meanings?

It won't be too long before the word Brexit is collected by a new dictionary.

My English is not good enough to build the appropriate word to design this "British Exit".

Or is it just that you are too polite to mouth (or type) what it should really be called?

@LadyDuck Sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

@owlwings Sometimes no matter which decision people take is a bad decision.

Politics - parrot parasites. It's the only one I can think of for now. I like your definition of Brexit, now it finally has a real meaning.

Well, I already gave three of my favourite alternative meanings for the word. Personally, I don't think the shameful result of the referendum even deserves a word to it's name!

Brouhaha. Definitely. And under false, or at least drastically unclear, pretences.

I rather like the use of a French word for it. 'Brou' reminds me of 'brume' (meaning 'fog') and 'haha' expresses perfectly the hollow laugh one is inclined to give at the very mention of the subject.

@owlwings Thank you. Hollow. Yes. So vacuous, the echoes are still bouncing off the walls...

The word Brexit is definitely the name of a breakfast cereal. If it were ever produced it would be bland, with no colour. It would be very harsh on your tummy and give you aches. :)

Definitely something like shredded wheat only not in neat biscuits but all broken up and made from 30% recycled egg boxes.

Sorry, didn't fall asleep last night until 2 am. My brain will not allow me to come up with anything. Have fun with this.

I've had a think and have decided you'll need a far more witty a person than me to respond as I can't think of any. Although I got what you were going to say as soon as I read the first line Were you a remainer?...seem to remember that you were.

@Mike197602 I (along with almost everyone else I know personally, apart from one who had some very weird ideas about the EU being the Antichrist) could see absolutely no sense in leaving the EU, despite all its failings. I wasn't here to discuss that, though.
