Just posting an update about our new kitten experience. Little Echo is being a major hand full. It's similar to having a toddler in the house but, in this scenario, the toddler likes to try to climb curtains, get behind the oven, etc. It's actually surprisingly exhausting. Our older cat, however, is doing better. He's still not crazy about the new addition but isn't hiding in our bedroom any more. Instead, he does come out and, as long as the kitten doesn't approach him, goes about his day. Once Echo looks his direction, however, he is quick to remind us he does not like having the other cat.

As an owner of 16 cats @srhelmer , I can tell you that Echo and the older cat "may" or "may not" ever become buddies. One thing you can do is take your hands and rub them along the mouth of Echo and then immediately rub your hands on the older cats face. And then do the vise versa (older cat to Echo). The transfer of scent can sometimes help.

I'm actually still trying to figure out the older one. He hisses and growls at the kitten. But, there are times when he almost seems to be the instigator. I was home at lunch today and he walked right past Echo then stopped a few feet away and kept twitching his tail as though he wanted the kitten to attack it. He, of course, then hissed when Echo took the bait.

@srhelmer The older cat feels that 'his' home is being invaded by an intruder. Cats are just as possessive as a dog is about their master and environment. The older cat was telling Echo "my house, my rules".

Hope they can be good friends soon so you can enjoy watching them playing together.

I'm sure it's a shock to the system for the other kitty to have a young upstart in the house. Probably gives him no respect at all.

Sweet. I'm glad they're both doing okay.
