The Aroma is Irresistible!

Before I left for the dentist this afternoon, I put a pork tenderloin in the crockpot to cook while I was gone. I added some Mojo marinade, seasoning, and a can of vegetable soup to the mix to help give it some amazing flavor. When I walked back into the house this afternoon after returning from the dentist and running some errands, I was greeted at the door by the most tantalizing aroma that has filled the entire house! Of course my empty stomach started growling as soon as I smelled the delicious tenderloin! Unfortunately, I have to wait about another hour until my girlfriend gets home before I can serve dinner. I may have to cheat and cut off a few slices of the pork to "sample" to make sure it is ready to serve! Hopefully, I don't get gluttonous and eat half the thing before she gets home! What are you serving for dinner tonight? What's some good side dishes to go along with the pork tenderloin? I was thinking mashed potatoes and rice.

Potatoes *and* rice? We eat either-or.

My girlfriend is a big fan of rice, so it seems like we eat it with just about any meal, even if it's not the "normal" side dish to go with the main course! I also have some fresh asparagus, but I was saving that to cook with the salmon I plan on making tomorrow night!

@moffittjc Fresh asparagus at the end of September? In Germany the season ends in June.

@MALUSE We get fresh fruits and vegetables all year long here. When our growing season is over, the growing season in South America is just getting started! With a free trade agreement in place, we always have fresh food at our markets! Plus, where I live in Florida, the climate is conducive to growing fruits and vegetables for about 10 months out of the year.

My biggest meal was lunch. I am not supposed to eat a lot at dinner time. Leticia and I are discovering good recipes for diabetics. Maybe I should write a book!

@moffittjc I love to cook. And to discover that I cannot eat everything will not make me stop eating well.

@marguicha I do not like to cook at all, but when I do, I tend to go overboard and cook too much food!

Diabetics are always looking for great recipes to help them manager their diet, so you may be very successful if you write a book!

Of course, you have to taste it to make sure everything is fine. Go on. Do it! Hehe. Just one taste. That's all. Nothing more! I have no idea what will be for dinner later on. Need to think about breakfast first. We'll just surprise ourselves. And mashed potatoes sound good.

@moffittjc Hmm... but isn't sampling a normal part of cooking? Do you ever serve food without checking if the salt is just right, for instance? Or maybe your 'samples' are more than just tasting it? That could be the problem.

I can't resist sampling all the food I cook when I am making a meal. The only bad part is that by the time dinner is served, I am no longer hungry!

@moirai Yes, I sample tiny bits to check if the seasoning is just right, or if I mixed the ingredients just right. But, if I am doing a really good job of cooking, and the food tastes really, really good when I sample it, I find that I keep going back for more and more "samples" of the dish! lol

mashed potatoes is good, but rice would be overkill with the potatoes. One or the other. An apple dish always goes well with pork. Maybe bake some apples or have applesauce.

I wish I would have had some apples or applesauce, that would have been perfect to serve with the meal! I did have a frozen Mrs. Smith's apple pie, but I didn't want to wait an hour for it to bake.

I would say mashed potatoes and some kind of veggies. Sounds amazing but yes I agree you need to sample to make sure it is just right for your girlfriend. We had chicken roasted in the oven with taters and coleslaw.

@Happy2BeMe Not sure if you follow college football, but today my beloved University of Florida takes on the University of Tennessee, at 3:30pm. Tennessee is one of our biggest rivals, and the game is at the University of Tennessee. Florida has beaten Tennessee 11 straight times, but Tennessee is favored to win this game. I hope you can help me cheer on my Florida Gators to victory today!

I've never been a big fan of sweet potatoes, although everyone else in my family loves them! I mean, I'll eat them, but if given the choice I would rather have regular potatoes over sweet potatoes. But interestingly, sweet potato pie is one of my favorite types of pie! lol I've never had homemade sweet and sour chicken! That sounds delicious! I should give it a try one of these days!

I wanted to cook in the crockpot today, but with the hurricane hitting I don't want the food to be half-cooked and then the power goes out on us! I currently have a couple of pizzas cooking in the oven, because if the power goes out later I don't mind eating cold pizza! lol

I love pork in the crockpot but never used vegetable soup in mine. Sounds like a good addition and I'm going to have to give it a try. I'm always looking for something new and yes, I agree that crockpot cooking does make the house smell sooooo good. Hope you save some of that tenderloin for your girlfriend

I added the vegetable soup just so the tenderloin could soak in some of the vegetable juices. The marinade will overpower the soup, but the soup will help lessen the "kick" that the marinade has to it! An old trick I learned from my mom. And yes, I promise to save some for the gf...she'd kill me if I didn't!
