If I was her parent.....

Yesterday a news item caught my attention. During the previous evening, police, fire and paramedics were kept on the run with 911 calls reporting first a structure fire. A short while later a call came in for an automobile accident at a rural intersection with severe injuries. Shortly after that a call about a boyfriends collapse and VSA. For several hours emergency vehicles responded to calls. On reaching the destination, there was no fire. There was no collision and no young man, VSA. A police investigation found the calls had been made by a 13 year old girl in a nearby city as a prank. A prank? As a minor, I'm sure she will get off with a slap on the wrist. If I wash her parent, I'm just imagining the punishment she would be receiving....least of which....no cell phone. How would you deal with a situation like this?

I would have let the police arrest her and let her stew in police custody for an a day and night. She would definitely know she had done wrong if it had been my daughter! She would be living a nuns life for at least six months I can tell you! I don't know about a slap on the wrist sound like she needs a good backside whipping!

@Morleyhunt That should take a year or two then! LOL That is not child abuse what is child abuse is when you intentionally starve or are just plain spiteful. A short sharp shock never did any harm from loving.... yes you read that right loving parents. If you loved your kids you would do it to stop such stupid behaviour! OH Morley see you got me going again! LOL Never fails eh!

@garymarsh6 when I read the piece in the newspaper, my blood boiled. My children were disciplined, often with a punishment that suited the crime. Occasionally with the sharp rebuke on the backside. They grew up to respect (not fear) my husband and myself. They laugh at some of the punishments now, but understand why some behaviours were not permitted. A little strict in some ways...there would be no slamming of doors in anger....open and close the door ten times quietly.....if you argued the punishment it doubled....only one time did someone open and close their door more than the ten times stipulated. Likewise, no stomping up or down the stairs.....

My daughter would have sore backside, child abuse? Not when you've caused reckless endangerment. Also, community service ,at least as many hours as it would take to pay the cost of the calls.

Same as @JolietJake and no more cell phone for at least 3 weeks. This girl deserves a serious lesson, if I was her parent I would find a way to scare her, a menace to send her to a nun college in Switzerland. Good luck girl!

A thirteen year old is old enough to know that this sort of prank cost thousands of dollars and in the ev not of a real incident, puts lives and property at risk.

@Morleyhunt exactly. she's old enough, it's irresponsible and affects a lot of people, not a harmless prank that's only between you and your friends.

That is awful. I cannot imagine how I would handle something like that if it were my child. A little more parenting is obviously needed so she doesn't get bored and break the law like that.

Boundaries. What is right and what is wrong. A very sore derrière. And lots and lots of hands on dirty community service...no stuffing envelopes for this girl.
