Invasion Of The Stink Bugs

That's right, we are being invaded by stink bugs. Within the last few days we have them everywhere outside. I know we have seen at least 30 of them on our balcony. I have never seen so many like this before but we do have woods all around us so I guess that is where they are coming from.
I'm not afraid of stink bugs but, having that many around us makes me feel kind of creepy. Just thinking about it right now makes my skin crawl. I was wondering why they are all out right now so I googled it.
Apparently at the end of summer, they start looking for warm places to stay for the winter. They try to get into homes through cracks and openings. Sometimes they spend the winter in attics or inside walls. During this time, which is called overwintering, they do not feed or reproduce. They start coming out again during the spring when it is warmer.
I guess the good news about this is Fall must be right around the corner for us. The bad news is, I'm afraid they are going to kill my new plant that I have outside.
I'm afraid to bring the plant inside right now because there may be bugs on it and I don't want them inside our home. I am hoping that as it gets cooler, the bugs will find somewhere else to go and I can then bring my plant inside.

Maybe you don't have them there. I have never seen so many at one time before and that's why I looked up info on them. And you know what? Evidently, they should be weathermen because this morning it's a lot cooler outside and looks like rain. It is supposed to stay cool this time.

I rarely see a stink bug and I am pleased about this because they are ugly little insects. We get centipedes that come into the house for the same reason. They are weird things, look like little black worms but have loads of legs and roll up in a circle when in danger. If hurt in some way they stink too, they may have lots of legs but they do not resemble the wiry ginger things that move so fast, does anyone know what they might be from my description?

We had hundreds of these exact same bugs lurking around the doors and windows for several days and killed as many as we could to keep them out of the house. Last year was the same. Now, for a day or two there are none, but they may be back. I did not get close enough to notice an odor, but I thouhgt that stink bugs were large black bugs.

I researched them online just to make sure that is what they are called. From what I read, they come in groves like that when they are searching for warm places for winter. I think they are a good way to know when cooler weather is coming because two days after our invasion, we got some cooler weather.

We get those here in Texas too @simone10 but they're not near as irritating as a June Bug.

Haven't seen any around here. I have heard people talking about them but I have never actually seen them.

I don' think we have that kind of bugs here but any bug that would kill new plants would be very alarming. I hope you could find ways to eradicate them.

I don't know, but I wouldn't think they'd hurt your plant. Did your research say anything about that or you could check. It's much later now, so maybe they've gone away.
We had loads of them this year too, mostly at the homes where we washed windows. I don't really remember seeing them much before this year, but it seems like certain bugs overwhelm the area every few years and even though the ones from the past still come around, they're never as large a quantity as whatever ones are more prevalent in that year.
I remember back in the late eighties/early nineties when earwigs were trying to come in via the windows and we saw them everywhere, then a few years later it was the Japanese beetles. While I still see both of those bugs each year, I don't see the oodles I did years ago.
