Fruit Flies and Things to Do This Week

Have you ever had a fruit fly infestation? For whatever reason we've had an influx of them this summer and they are even in our bathroom. My sister told me about putting cider vinegar in a container with a little Dawn dish soap. I did that last week and we've already captured quite a few of those little buggers. Maybe they're all caught by now, but not sure. I know we don't see the amount flying around that we did before. I still need to see if the Belkin router we got via ups works with the new modem or not. Otherwise, Saturday I brought in a new desk I purchased from Staples several years ago. It's been put together but in a different room and loaded with filing. I want to try my desk on the opposite wall in our dinette and see if it works better since the sun won't be putting a glare onto the monitor. I still have to figure out how and where to put my other furniture that will hold phone books and my printer, and a filing cabinet. The first image is the cider vinegar with a dead fruit fly on the lip. The new desk is still free of paperwork clutter and the last image is my old desk loaded with invoices from our business that I still need to work on. I got a lot of invoices into the computer when the internet was down and I need to continue working on that rather than being here nonstop.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fruit fly but I know we sometimes get nats, they're pesky but there aren't too many of them if I get em. Best of luck with all that data entry.

The best way for me to do the data entry is to not even open up mylot in the morning to see who's been by. I did quite a bit the other day while waiting for the power after the tree came down and again when the router quit. That was before I realized I could get online when I hooked the cord directly to the modem instead. Fruit flies tend to hand around ripe fruit left out too long. After we got rid of the banana they stayed longer than I expected even though we didn't have any other fruit or produce out on the counter.

Data Entry is not easy when there are distractions @MarshaMusselman I guess I don't have fruit flies then, I don't have fruit out ever because most of mine is frozen.

I think we misplaced one banana under some papers early on and even after finding it and getting rid of it, the flies were already around and seemed to continued to multiply. This is the first year we had so many of them.

Yes, there has been times when there are a lot of fruit flies around. They are usually those times when we forget to change/throw out the bag where we put all the peels and stuff in. That monitor looks a bit high for me, though. I feel like I'll have a stiff neck looking at it. Then again, maybe I'm thinking that only because my glasses are getting really loose now and keeps on falling down my nose.

My daughter suggested I try it up there, but I'm planning on moving it down to the lower top and putting maybe my printer up there rather than on a different table like I had it before.

@MarshaMusselman Ah, yes. The printer would probably be good up there. Our computer is actually in a cabinet and the printer is way on top of the cabinet.

@moirai You could take a picture of it if you'd like and add it to your post here. I thought I'd get my work into the extra bedroom, but I'm going to try harder to keep my desk cleaner than I tended to keep it up to now. Other than mylot, I get side-tracked mostly by working both jobs and putting things off for too long.

I hope you got rid of all the fruit flies. We only get the odd one, but the flyspray comes out straight away. I hate any form of insects in my home.

@SHOHANA AT one point I thought maybe you were making a purposeful play on words. It had me scratching my head for a moment. Glad we're on the same page.

That's an interesting desk. I haven't seen one like it with three layers like that.

We liked it so much we bought two of them, but mine stayed int eh garage for longer than it should have and we put it together in the room I thought would be mine, but my husband got there first. I've stayed in the dinette and will probably remain here. I'm going to put the monitor on the main part of the desk, though, instead of the top portion as I have to lift my chin to see it well. It also has a few shelves on the lower right to have the tower off the desk or floor and a place for storage.

I only get a few if I have some over ripe fruit but have never had what I would consider an infestation.

Your new set up looks business like and pretty. I need to organize my office. I have a nice office but it is a dump! Found a cell phone box in there yesterday and asked my husband if I could get rid of it. He wanted to keep it until I pointed out he doesn't even have that phone anymore! Then he found 2 old phones and decided he could get rid of them. We have a long way to go to make the office nice.
