Furnace Is On For The First Time This Season

I broke down as I couldn't take the cold anymore. I put the furnace on for the first time this season. I have Raynaud's syndrome and my hands were almost frozen, I had to constantly reheat my heating pad and cover my hands with it in order to get them pink again. What a pain in the neck it is! Now, the house is getting warmer and like Martha Stewart would say "It's a good thing". It is raining outside and looks very gloomy and more like a Fall day. I guess it was to be expected.

I guess that means it's time to get out the fuzzy socks, and add blankets around the house and start adding layers in some of the windows and near the bottom of the doors to block gaps.

We don't have gaps around doors and windows. But we sure love to wear our fuzzy stuff.

Ah poor you- my daughter has that syndrome and really can't be out in the cold too long either! It's getting chilly at night and I could break down too and put the heat on but am holding out. It may be a little warmer where I am in Canada!

It's getting chillier here as well, but I'm hoping to wait until the end of October before turning on our heat. It may get to seventy yet today and a few days coming up. My husband still has the fan in his room going when he's home, so for us it wouldn't be a good thing to turn it on. I know that many older people already have theirs on, though, and that's to be expected. As we get older, most of us are colder than we were when younger. For me, I'm always cold if it's below eighty degrees. Certainly, if you have an illness or syndrome that makes you colder yet, it's probably better to get it going before everyone else. I've met folks that have the heat running even when it's much warmer than it's been in the past few weeks.

We left two windows open in our bedroom last night. It was cold, but not cold enough to turn the heat on. We like a cold room for sleeping. Actually, we just turned the air conditioner off after running it almost all summer. I'm sure the heat is helping your hands. Feel better.

@marlina I have a friend with that, when her hands get cold which is very often they hurt. I am sorry to hear you have it. I wish it was cooler here. You walk out the door and beads of sweat instantly appear on your forehead.

It doesn't matter if it is summer for my fingers, every time I take something from the freeze or fridge, my fingers get all blue.

Well you have to do, what you have to do. I don't usually put my furnace on until much later in the year, but I do have some heaters I use if it is chilly. It hasn't been chilly here, just a couple of coolish mornings.

I use space heaters exclusively and block off portions of my trailer so I'm heating only the rooms where I'm spending my time. It's my feet that get cold, and it happens the minute the high temps outside fall below 70°F. Lately I've been running the space heater for a little while at night, and in the bathroom when I shower. I don't have the rooms blocked off yet, but yesterday I put the mattress warmer on the bed, getting ready for inevitable winter. I'm kinda looking forward to scrunching up under the warm covers.
