Keeping track of the books I've read

Since about 2013 I started writing down the titles and authors of the books I read so I could keep track. The problem is now that I have read so many books I cannot remember at times if I read a certain one by an author or not. Now I am keeping two lists. One is by date such as 2016 book 23 Followed by Title and Author. The second list is in order of authors name followed by book title. This will make one list easy to see what I read each year and one lost easy to see if I read a certain book or not. I just finished reading "44 Cranberry Point" by Debbie Macomber. I am starting "92 Pacific Boulevard" right now which is by the same author.

Sounds like a good way to know what books you've read.

I created a database on my computer where I enter the title of the books I read, the author and my comments about the book.

I created the list on a notepad document on my computer and then I saved a copy to a private facebook note to myself so if I lose one copy I will still have another.

@allen0187 Sorry I did not see this comment of yours until now. When I get new books for free I will look at my list to make I have not read the books before. If I have read them then I will not reread it. I will donate the book.

@Tina30219 I am glad you commented on this post of mine as there were at least 5 people who had left comments and I had not seem them or responded. I hate when that happens I feel they will think I am rude.

I wish I had listed all the books I've read. I would have notebooks full. Sometimes I forget and pick up a book I've read before and I will remember bits and pieces of the book but I enjoy reading an interesting book again

@RubyHawk I remember some of the titles as well so I am going to do a search and look up the authors and add them to my list. I wish I had kept better track over the years as well.

@shaggin I think I will start listing books I've read with the date. plus books I remember reading earlier. I wish I had done it years before. I take some to the thrift store occasionally, most of my books I cannot part with but i must from now on as we live in a small apartment and only have room for one wall of books..

I don't list the books I read but I kept the books that got me interested. What genre do you read @shaggin?

I read just about anything. I like fiction the most and sci-fi / fantasy the least. I am so sorry it took me so long to respond. I did not see your comment on here until today when someone else commented on this post.

I often wished that I had done that from when I was a kid. How amazing to be able to go back and see what you were reading when you were 12. I loved to read!

I've never thought of writing a list but it would probably be helpful. So far, I can usually read the intro and know if I read it or not but as I get older, my memory is not what it used to be.

That is a great reason to keep a list! I have two copies I have written. One in a private note on facebook and one in a document on my computer. I am so sorry it took me so long to respond. I did not see you had commented on this until someone commented on this post today.

@responsiveme I never actually buy books. I get them free or borrow them from the library. I just finished one by Danielle Steel called The Cottage and have started on a Christmas one called Angel Lane.

I used to do the same thing. I have so many books that I started keeping a list of all the ones I've read. I haven't updated it in a while, but I think it's long overdue for one.

I am so sorry I never replied. I never saw this comment until someone commented on this post today. The very popular authors I usually can remember most books but the ones I am new to reading are harder to remember.
