Where's the Coffee?

I couldn't make this up if I tried. Yesterday, I bought a new inexpensive Mr. Coffee coffeemaker. I only just now read the user's manual, and this is what it states in the "Troubleshooting" section if "THE COFFEEMAKER ONLY BREWS WATER." POSSIBLE CAUSE: There are no coffee grounds in the filter basket. SOLUTION: ADD THE DESIRED AMOUNT OF COFFEE. This could indicate either or both of two things: The person who wrote this recommendation is moonlighting as a comedy writer. Or... There really are indeed people out there for whom this COULD be a problem... (Public Domain Image)

I have forgotten to add the coffee grounds, but did not resort to trouble shooting....I just looked over...and called myself an idiot.

I've done things like that, too. They just take on a whole new meaning when spelled out so plainly in the user's manual! LOL

The user manuals are becoming more hilarious than some books.

Some people just have to have it all spelled out for them.

That is a weird one. Maybe there are people who think the coffee machine brews coffee without putting any in the basket.

I'd really love to know what the writer of this "Solution" was thinking of!

I love how they write some of this stuff up. I have to ask myself, who do they do this for, yikes.

I think it's for liability purposes. They have to cover all the bases, and you know as well as I do that some people need everything spelled out for them.

Nearly as bad as the warning on a packet of peanuts. This may contain nuts??? Well I should jolly well hope so too. I guess there are always some thick people around in this world!

My father used that word a lot: thick. That says it all in some cases.

There are books with collections of such inane instructions. I once bought a nightgown made in the USA and found the instruction 'Don't put near open fire'. Your country people are well known for suing. So the policy of the manufacturers is obviously 'Better safe than sorry'.

I'm sure that's the thinking behind it. All it would take would be for one person to sue, stating that "Nothing came out of the coffee but water!" To which the manufacturer could reply: "You obviously did not read the 'User's Manual.'"

Gotta' love it! Seems to me there is someone here who has forgotten that all important addition to the coffee pot.

I wonder if "Good at sarcasm" is one of the requisites for the job of writing those manuals...

I think people are really that stupid and would not realize it.

I think that some might be, or maybe just distracted and not realizing there IS no coffee in the basket...
