They say you should keep your black cats inside around Halloween; people are cruel to them. Black cats are the last to be adopted from the animal shelter, and the most often euthanized. I currently have two black cats, and I have had many. It's a shame the stigma that has been put on them; they are not bad luck, they are just cats. Don't discriminate against them for the color of their fur!

I presently have a black cat, Gremlin. It never crossed my mind to worry about the color of fur, but I do keep him locked up around Halloween out of an abundance of caution.

Another member @Ronrybs has just lost his two black cats and will be getting another from a shelter. It is strange how they are not as popular as other colours.

I guess people think the tabby cats and the calico cats have more interesting colors, but I think black cats look like mini-panthers.

@norcal I think that's true. I wouldn't really mind what colour cat I had but the calico and tuxedos are certainly attractive.

@JudyEv I think maybe it's harder to picture how beautiful the black kittens will be when they are grown. Maybe people think the multi-colored kittens look cuter.

It is sad that black cats have gotten a bad reputation. I feel for all animals. I love cats but cannot have one due to allergies. I think black cats are actually very cool looking. They just have that look to them. around here in NYC, there are a lot of street cats. Sad really. People are cruel and I believe any person that can harm a defenseless animal could also hurt a child. So they should be punished.

@norcal I know. They need to make the punishment for animal abuse more severe. As for feral cats, well, I agree. They need to try and cut that population down. Then maybe they can get a handle on it for the future.

Cats reproduce so quickly, and they are actually able to survive on their own. That leads to a lot of feral and semi-feral cats. Spaying an neutering is the best answer to animal overpopulation. People who are cruel to animals, that is another problem. They are rarely caught, and if they are, the punishment is not severe.

I don't think they are, at least not consciously. In the past I think black cats were associated with witches because eccentric old ladies who collected stray cat ended up with a lot of black cats.

I agree with you. Black cat is always beautiful, and elegant. I once had a black cat named Monic. She was totally black, but very beautiful.

The color itself is not a favorite of anybody. This is not only in India but in almost all civilizations of the world. Even now the people having black in color are treated with discrimination. We need not forget the position of blacks in the U.s.

I like black, as a color. Discriminating against people on the basis of skin color or ethnic origin has been around for a long time, and it continues to be a problem. The US is certainly guilty of it, but we not alone in this. Is there a country where skin color truly does not matter?

I love black cats and did have two, who passed recently. I have already spoken to the shelter and hope to have a new house guest in time for National Black Cat Day on the 27 and International Black Cat Day on the 31 of this month
