Shame on Uber

Uber is similar to a taxi service but much less expensive. DD Steele, who is disabled due to Cerebral Palsy used Uber to take her to her many doctors appointments. Lately however, she has been refused five times by the drivers. Why? Miss Steele has a service dog to help her get around and the drivers refuse to have the dog get into the car. According to the Disabilities Act, she has every right to have her dog with her for medical reasons. She has filed a claim with the Department of Justice in this matter. What's the matter with these drivers; are they afraid to get a little hair from the dog in their car? Shame on Uber.
A Mansfield woman has filed a complaint with the Department of Justice claiming that Uber drivers won't pick her up because of her service dog and...

That's not fair to deny her the services. I wish for her safety, and good transportation as she needs it every time.

Can you imagine @everwonderwhy ; here she has a doctors appointment scheduled, the Uber guy gets there and says no. How quickly can she get another ride to the appointment? Would she have to reschedule because she couldn't be there on time because of this? I'd be madder than heck.

@nanette64 Would she have friends, relatives or good neighbors who could help her do the driving for her? Or similar to licensed with police clearance "Home Care Services" ? I hope she gets the help she needs.

@everwonderwhy It didn't really state whether she had other assistance or not.

She should have contacted the local newspaper and gotten them to write an article about this.A little negative publicity would soon set them right.Shame on Uber, indeed.

Now that it's on the news and she has taken steps to correct the problem, hopefully it will make a difference @jennyjoy .

While I do have a disabled daughter I am divided on this issue. I do believe the drivers should have the right to deny riders but I also believe that the company should have a policy about service animals to where drivers can opt out.

There needs to be a specific policy that's for sure @irishidid .

Uber often can't control the private cabs so I am guessing the cab driver will be out of listing.

They should not discriminate like that and will probably be in big trouble.

It will probably happen many times. The drivers own the cars used, so they probably have the right to refuse, even if we don't agree.
