Creepy clowns spotted in my town now

I was surprised to see a front page item with a headline about creepy clowns right here in our sort of river city. One report was so ridiculous though. A University of Oregon student was on the phone, walking near the student union, talking to his out of state mom. He mentioned that "two people dressed as creepy clowns were handing out fliers from a booth in front of the building. She warned him to stay away from them, then hung up and called the Campus Police. Sounds like a long distance helicopter parent. Other, maybe really creepy ones, have been spotted in small nearby towns over the weekend. Back in the 1970s, there was a man named John Wayne Gacy near Chicago, who worked as a children's party clown. He was also a mass murderer who killed at least 33 boys and young men according to CNN. I wonder if he was the first really "creepy clown?"

We had an incident here on Friday of last week. It was found that the threats were posted to social media and they came from outside the state, they were found to not be credible. I will provide the link, the section listed as Mesa, is my area. It seems that most of the stuff is just fake, at least here in Colorado according to this news clipping. I don't find it funny one way or the other, fake or real.
Colorado is now joining other states who are reporting social media threats of creepy clowns coming to schools.

I ran into a facebook post just a bit ago. A person had posted a photo of a clown peering in her glassed front door. Scared her something awful. Right in my little town. What a way to get attention.

@JamesHxstatic When I talked with the Corvallis real estate folks I asked- nice as I could- if there were dangerous areas that were not so smart to buy a house in. I think they were not faking when they acted shocked at my question. I told them that my town has an area where there has been gang related shootings.

I wouldn't doubt it. Is it because of Halloween?

I still think in the national interests, some licensing to wear clothes that do not allow others to recognize should be made mandatory.

@JamesHxstatic .. There has to be facial description available for identifying a criminal. What if the guy happens to be child abductor, or a rapist. How do we know and describe? I think somewhere we need to have a balance considering our security. Now that terrorism is an issue, we need to be able to nab the person, right?

Wow, a serial killer clown. It doesn't get much creepier than that. I've been thinking about where clown fears come from. Are children scared of clowns or is it something that develops as we get older, once we gain a sense of what a dangerous place the world is and how much weirdness is out there? I find clowns quite freaky now but I don't remember finding them scary as a kid, although I never liked them much, always thought they were the dullest part of a circus performance.

I also don't remember being afraid of clowns when I was younger. Not that I'm afraid of them now, although I find some to be creepy.

@JamesHxstatic, I was to young for John Wayne Gacy back in the 70's, I have no recollection of those events, but the name is familiar. As for movies the only movie that comes to mind is "IT" I believe it was written by Steven King, I never read that book, nor saw the movie. I really don't like scary movies, whether they have clowns or anything else. I think I heard about a clown killing someone in Philadelphia, but that is the only one I heard about and not even sure if that is real or not.

I wonder if all those movies about killer clowns inspired the fear, that and John Wayne Gacy in the US.

I blame the movies for the bad reputation they gave to the clowns. I remember when I was a kid that we considered the clowns happy characters, no more in our days.

What exactly are these creepy clowns doing, other than being creepy? Is there really a link between them?

Mostly I think it is people playing pranks, but each time it happens police must respond if someone calls. I have not heard of any links. The ones at the university were handing our fliers for some legitimate reason. People get scared for little reason sometimes.

That was weird, it is better to be safe this time. We cannot trust anyone especially this time bad elements scatter anywhere wanting to kill innocents.

What with all these sightings, regular clowns are going to be getting a bad name. It's a shame if clowns become 'bad guys' instead of fun entertainers.

Clowns have always scared the Hell out of me anyway. I'd be more traumatized if there were Creepy Willie the Poohs out there. I'd shoot on sight.

Sometimes parents get too hands on. Yes, I recall John Wayne Gacy. He was a situation. Those types tend to get away with it until a victim is able to get away.

Perhaps, but they are putting themselves in some jeopardy. I just heard that one was arrested in Portland and another in the southern Oregon city of Medford.

I had forgotten about John Wayne Gacy. Yes, he was definitely a creepy clown. I imagine that 99% of the clowns we are hearing about are college kids who are just enjoying Halloween a little early. However, it is that 1% who can be dangerous that has everyone freaked out.

The local high school here is having issues with those clowns but it's a bit more extreme. The clowns are saying they are going to kill the students at the school so now they have extra security at the schools until Halloween is over. It's been all over the news and it's just super crazy. I wonder if it's the same group of people just going throughout the country or if it's some kind of organized group. I even thought about maybe it's just marketing for a scary movie that's coming out!
