I just don't know what crossed my mind about being old. Maybe I am old, or getting older.. ahhhm yeah I am really old what can I say, it is something, inevitable.. all of us as they say are going to get old, I say, come on give me a break, it is just a number. Like what I say on my first statement I really have no idea why I chose this topic. Anyway, my discussion should have something that one will learn from. So in connection to just being old, I would like to talk about dementia. I was a bit confused about Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Without looking at the internet or other resources could you explain to me (in your opinion) what's the difference of the two. Don't cheat.... oh uh.. have you just checked google.com?

@Mavic123456Old is being in your 80's and 90's. Why just 65 when you are still young.

@jstory07 I don't know I just like to live as old as this. or maybe 6 and 5 are my favorite numbers. seriously, I think I have accomplished all the things I have to do by this time and could proudly say.... "Mission Accomplished!"

I have NOT checked! I think Dementia is a general term meaning forgetfulness whereas Alzheimer's is a well- defined disease.

Dementia is a general overall term for diseases that affect memory and brain function - Alzheimers is the most prevalent disease to cause dementia but there are others too. Parkinson's Disease also causes dementia - they mostly affect the elderly but early onset forms can strike us at any age

Dementia is more about confusion and Alzheimers is a disease of the brain that causes physical changes to the brain.

They say, that a person who engages more on brain activities like socialization, blogging or teaching would most unlikely to have either dementia or Alzheimer. Do you agree?

@Mavic123456 While I think it can help with dementia I think there are physical changes with Alzheimers that can't be helped by any of those things.

I see it says on your profile page that you are 49 - that is definitely NOT old. I'm nearly 30 years older than you and still don't consider myself old!!

Alzheimer's is a progressive mental deterioration due to generalized degeneration of the brain while dementia is a persistent disorder of the mental processes due to brain disease or injury. – according to my iPad mini dictionary.

Reliable.the next question is, seriously they exist? During our great grandparents' time they simply live longer and die in sleep.

I think like Maluse's explanation hold goods. In dementia, you are forgetful no doubt, but you do not forget things that are day to day like brushing, bathing, urinating, etc. In Alzhiemer's you forget those too.

From what the doctors told me about mom's Ventricular dementia verses Alzheimer's is that in mom's case she would be totally lucid as long as she got enough blood to her brain whereas with Alzheimer's the brain cells themselves are dying and that is irreversible. I know there are ways to slow the progression of Alzheimer's but no cure.

ohh... then just take care of your mom's blood to her brain. (sorry I don't know how to put this into words without sounding offensive). so what should your mom do to have her brain gets enough blood?

me too, I don't like to reach an age where I will have this. anyway, they say that we must just be active now while we can. engage in activities that will make us active in mentally and physically.

@JudyEv sometimes, getting old(er) is fun, as well, now I can do things on my own without someone breathing at my neck. sometimes I feel bad that I am old because I will think... if I was younger I could have done this and that and this.
