It is time to say goodbye....

United States
October 8, 2016 8:50am CST
.....today is the day, the day we have to say goodbye. While it was 90 degrees yesterday, today will be around 80 and although the week ahead looks OK, we decided it was time to close the pool. My husband put in all the closing chemicals yesterday and took down the hand rail. He had to lower the water level to below the skimmers. That's all done. Today he has to use his air compressor to blow out the water lines so nothing freezes over winter. Once that is done the neighbor will help him cover the pool. Covering the pool is a two-man job, it's a big pool and the cover is awkward and heavy. We did it the fist summer and I told him I'd rather pay a pool company to do it. The neighbor helps for free which is a bonus. The other issue today is the wind. We may not be on the fringes of Matthew's wind, but there is a front coming through from the west and it's going to be windy, which won't help matters. I'll be watching from the window and Ruby will probably be hiding someplace. Oh well, all good (and fun) things must come to an end. Photo is mine.

That is a very nice pool Here some people will still swim in cold time as they think it will make them stronger.

@miniam We just have wind, I think 22 mph, which isn't bad compared to hurricane winds.

There are things neighbor does that we pay him for (like mowing our back hill) but little things my husband and him help each other out.

Wow , your pool is so inviting . It's sad that it has to be temporarily covered . But that's understandable because winter has come .

Poor Ruby, she is the one that is going to be more upset, long months to wait before another splash.

And we then have to play with her inside - she had a huge bucket of toys that she never plays with in summer, but when winter hits she drags them all out.

@AbbyGreenhill Dogs are funny and they are like children, when there is nothing better to do they get their toys.

@AbbyGreenhill Every time I have a water fountain or a drinking basin for the wild birds I find algae quickly builds up. Even the water pan for the chickens gets gunk on it.

@sallypup Standing water will get algae. This was the worst year ever for pink algae in the pool. We tried so many different things and it wouldn't clear up.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh but it's lovely at first to hibernate! Cabin fever doesn't set in for a few months yet!! February was always the worst month for me. I dreaded February every year. No longer though!
