Hurricane Matthew & NC

Hurricane Matthew has wreaked havoc on the Caribbean and several states along the East Coast in the United States. I live in North Carolina and our area was hit pretty hard. Robeson, Cumberland and Harnett counties suffered quite a bit of flooding. Robeson county is where hubby's family lives and we live in Harnett county. Fortunately, his family has not been affected by the flooding (except for power outages.. they probably will not get power back until next week, if they are lucky). We were without power for around 24 hours but it is back on now and our immediate area is slowly recovering. Lots of areas in the county are still suffering from outages. Unfortunately, in Robeson and Cumberland counties search and rescue teams are still trying to rescue families from their homes. Even though the storm is over several counties are still being issued flood warnings. Several areas are still expecting cresting of the river(s) and many areas are under mandatory evacuations. Our families have been blessed and kept safe from the major damage and we are praying for everyone out there who have been or will be affected by Hurricane Matthew.

We live in Martin County near the coast and we were blessed not to have any flooding in our home. Our granddaughter lives in Fayetteville, but they are okay. Lots to be thankful for.

Having family living in North Carolina and friends vacationing in Myrtle Beach, we were very aware of hurricane Matthews track and damage.

@marlina I also feel badly for everyone who has suffered through this storm. It is not over yet because so many areas are still going to be affected by the flooding.

@cindiowens glad to hear you are alright. We are so very blessed. So many people are still struggling and there are many more still being rescued. The waters have not crested yet in many places so more flooding is expected.

@LovingMyBabies Your family is in my prayers. Cumberland county is really bad and I hear Hoke got quite a bit too. The power outages around here are massive. Many places may not have power for a week or even more. The flooding has caused so much damage and power lines were part of the damage. Glad you got your power back.

I'm so glad you're safe from all that. Seems to me that each year those storms just get stronger, I wonder why.

Yes it is @Shellyann36 and I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with all the fracking big corporations are doing to our planet.

@Marilynda1225 thank you so much. There are still so many places that have not been evaluated yet so more damage is yet to be acknowledged.

It must have been a scary event for your family. I can't imagine being in a storm like that. Our neighbours were going to the Caribbean for their 25th anniversary and the resort called them and said there was nothing left so don't come and they gave them back their money. They went to the west coast of Mexico for their anniversary..

Glad to know that you are safe. Oh I would go so stir crazy without electricity and being able to do my stuff online!! I remember once an ice storm took out our electricity for over a week. I stayed at my mom's since hers didn't go out, but she didn't have cable or internet. I did spend a lot of time crocheting, as that was before I started sewing, and the girls and I got in a lot of schoolwork too during all those days.

Good that you were safe! We had high winds and plenty of rain, but not much damage in our area. Sad to say, we do see some on the news today that are still in a mess b/c of Matthew.
