I forgot to pay a credit card on time!

The due date was yesterday and my balance was $1.50. I was caught with no cash and wanting a cup of coffee so used that card as I recall. My first thought when I saw that date was "Oh, no! The problem would be a twenty-five dollar late charge. That would be really annoying. So, I called the bank and spoke with a nice young woman from Virginia named Bianca who had a delightful laugh. She waived any late fee for me and I paid the buck-fifty. I joked that it was costing the bank more money to get the payment than it was worth. So, I made or saved $25.00 with a phone call, not a bad morning. Have you ever talked a bank out of a late charge?

Now I recall that it was no coffee (that costs more), it was a parking meter!

@JamesHxstatic The parking meter was the cause of your troubles. It all ended without you having to pay the fine,so good.

I have once with Macy's - I totally forgot to make the payment (thought it was due at a later date). They cleared the late charges as I was a loyal customer which is nice! Your situation is reasonable it was only $1.50 and to get hit with such a large fee would be unreasonable and glad the nice girl was able to remove it for you :)

I'm glad to know I am not the only one that forgets to pay a bill on occasion. I have had issues with my grandson using my card for one of his video games. Once the company does a transaction it is there and he can automatically use it. I put a stop to that for he run up quite a bill. And the bank didn't charge me a fee. Then had a advance line and if I have had to take out what is in there for some emergency then it automatically takes a few dollars out of my checking to pay for any amount over the balance. So toward the end of the month when they might take 'a few dollars' out is usually when I only have a few in there. It can be frustrating to charged a fee and then have to call and explain and hope they will take it off.

That is annoying. I have it set up so the company take the minimum payment each month, in case I forget. Since I've done that I haven't incurred a late fees

@JamesHxstatic Normally I pay the full amount, less the monthly debit, so I don't give the card company a free loan!

That's the first thing they tell you to do - make that call - because communicating with the card folks can save you from a lot of things. I'm glad you didn't have to pay the late fee . . . that would have been a pretty expensive cup of coffee!!

That would have been terrible to be charged a late fee because of a $1.50 charge! I pay almost all of my bills online, so I haven't had any late payments in a long time. However, I can remember times when it used to happen to me!

@JamesHxstatic - It took me a while to get used to paying bills online; once I adjusted, I wouldn't do it any other way.

It was so much more than the balance, that I thought of it like working for a half hour and making $25.

Yes, I have talk my credit union out of fees. Most recently was when I told a website I no longer wanted to be a member. The funny thing is my Visa card information was out of date and they still was able to make the charge on it. I had not idea I was charge and didn't have the money in that account to cover it. I was furious. I got the fee dropped and later the charge dropped. I learned a very important lesson. If you are going to drop a website that has your card information be sure to remove the information even if it's out of date.

I'm afraid I'm not particularly emancipated when it comes to any matters concerning banking and, to my shame, I usually leave it to my husband to sort out

Nothing wrong with that as long as he is around. Anne pays our household bills online. I don't like the idea of doing that.
