What side of the bed do you sleep on?

This might sound like a very straightforward question to answer but it's not so straightforward in our house. Before we got the cats life was simple. Me on tbe left. Wife on the right. The cats have managed to change all that and I also know we let it happen. But they are so cute and cuddly and clever and manipulative. Bed time now is a bit of a farce. We can get into bed in our usual positions but see by the morning its an oh so different story. Today i woke up with my legs out the wrong side. Head half way down my side of the bed. One cat on my pillow and other one lying on my legs like king of the castle. Because of my legs my wifes legs were in a strange place to. Across my upper legs which meant I couldnt move. Felix wont move for anyone. She grips on to the duvet and no matter how much we try and move the black and white cat she clings on like there is no tomorrow. So now you see why the title of the post might not be so straightforward to answer. Anyone out there with bigger pets might have even more amusing scenarios to post. Like now my wife cannot get stretched out because of Felix. Here is a picture.

For some reason I'm now thinking - does Jeremy Corbyn sleep on the left? Is he so far left he risks falling out of bed, or will he drift a bit further to the right.......

@saulgoodman Not many socialists left. Certainly not many in the Labour party these days.

@5thHouse Watch out for a fledgling party in Scotland. I think the rise will be rapid. Labour is finished here. The Tories too. Lib Dems...Lil The SNP won't deliver what they set out to. We will become a quite Socialist nation again. Its in our make up.

He isn't really that far left compared to bygone days of yore. No one in Scotland would worry which side he fell out of or anything he did. Labour party in Scotland need to be Scottish and Socialist. Would sort the Tories in Kilts who are the SNP out.

I don't have cats, so I sleep wherever I want! If a Ms Horse is involved, she gets to choose.

I sleep on the top of the bed. And if a cat happens to be in my life, she (yes!) sleeps on my legs, without permission.

@saulgoodman Usually I let it be. And if I tried to move her, she would not hiss but display the unwillingness, as it would mean end of sleep for her. I can understand...

One of our cats sleeps on my legs without permission. Try and move her and she hisses. Then she moves but 5 minutes later she is on my legs again. Does your cat hiss if you try and move her?

I sleep on my own in a double bed, but always on just one side - as to whether it's the left or the right side, depends on what angle you're looking at the bed from. I wouldn't be comfortable in a single bed, even though I treat my double bed as single. Many years ago when I had my now long-departed cat, I still only slept on one side of the double bed and he'd curl up on the pillow next to mine, sometimes waking up in the night to chase my feet under the duvet, and he'd gently tap my face when it was time to get up. I suppose this is amusing in hindsight, but it wasn't very funny at the time. He (my long-departed cat) once had a cold accompanied by some rather violent sneezing fits....I had to banish him from the bedroom as it all got rather, shall we say 'copious' in the nasal fluid emission department. During the time I banned him from the bedroom with the door shut, leaving him to roam free through the rest of the flat as he wished, he'd spend the night standing outside of the closed bedroom door, banging against it with his back legs to the point where I had to let him in, complete with sneezes, otherwise I'd have got no sleep at all.

I have a single bed and I sleep on whatever part Cherry (my cat) leaves open for me. Sometimes it's the middle and sometimes it's a little sliver on one side or the other. Sometimes I get the bed but not the pillow.

Cherry sounds like a really good cat. Felix sleeps on top of me when I turn on my side. Nothing will move her. Maybe you should get a bigger bed. Mind you if Cherry is happy why change.

I sleep on the right side and my boyfriend on the left & my miniature Chiweenie in the middle of us. It normally ends with me on a small part of the bed, her smushed against me & Jacob in the middle of the bed with tons of room on the other side of him. I have to push him several times in the middle of the night to stay on his side. I try to go to sleep in the middle of the bed with my dog on the right side of me & him on the left side so he doesn't roll over her in the middle of the night.

Lol. You describe tbat so well. Its quite easy to picture. Your dog sounds like it might be about tbe size of a cat. Do you worry tbat it might get squashed? I worry about Cookie getting squashed as she gets right in the middle under the duvet whilst felix is on top of tbe duvet making hefself comfy as making us move

@saulgoodman My dog is a miniature Chiweenie & I do worry about him squashing her. When I first got her she was a month old & she fit in one hand of mine. She was about the size of a banana or a hot dog bun so I made sure that she slept close to me & up by my pillow/face.

I had sorta that problem when I visited my fiance. His cat, I think, likes to sleep near me because I don't move around alot when I sleep. I sleep on the left side of the bed.

The cat most likely feels very at ease to be near you. That's a good thing.

Ha - I sit on the bed to watch TV in the evening and Morph comes and sits on me for a scratch and a brush. He then moves over to the end of the bed on my husbands side and stays there until he is kicked off unceremoniously when my hubby comes to bed.

Hahaha. He wouldnt kick Felix off. I have tried time and time again. She thinks its a game. Its hilarious. But not good for our sleep patterns. Is that Morph in your avatar?

@bwjsdems He is most likely correct as I have found out that cats usually do call tbe shots. He looks smart.

Its been so long since I haven't shared. Sharing is fun. So the question is this Alone or sharing. Which do you prefer?

I always sleep on the right. It's got me thinking though, why is it always the same side? Why don't we swap now and again, just for variety? At the moment as my other half is in Canada I have had the bed to myself -- and yet I am still keeping to the right. Sleeping in the left or on the middle seems wrong. (The cats don't take the spare side. They just sleep on top of me.)

We dont swap either. Ever. I have asked. To no avail. I dare you to sleep on the left. It must be a wife thing to sleep on the right.
