Anyone use the "Text Shortcuts" feature? Text Message Abbreviations! (Ex. ILY = I love you)

If there are frequent phrases you type, you should definitely use the "text shortcut" feature on your phone. For instances there are some default ones like: - If you type "omw" it will automatically spell out "On my way!" which saves you 5 characters and two spaces to type out. And of course, you can customize your own too! For instances some of my customized ones are: - Morning = Good Morning hunny - Gnight = it will spell out Good night hunny, I love you! - Bz = I'm busy right now, will get back to you soon. They're just convenient especially for phrases I use daily. And lately, I have been texting my sister more often than usually, and I have been using my customized text shortcuts I normally use on my boyfriend to my sister. Ha-ha. Do you use any short cuts? Care to share your examples of your short cuts?

It is interesting for me to know it. Since my mother language is not English, so I hardly use text shortcut. In fact basically I just know something like ASAP, BYW, OMG

I do use in my mobile phone especially right now. I can use my laptop because of teaching per se. In between classes, I use my mobile phone with the feature.

I never used short cuts in emails, texts, or chats. I think the reason behind it is that, I rarely use my phone to text - only when I need to text my parents, which is like twice a month.

I think I may confuse some. I type short cuts for instance BZ but the recipient will see I'm busy right now, will get back to you soon. So it saves time :)

I would not consider such a system because it would indoctrinate is into using text speech as a regular thing.

@infatuatedbby I understood you correctly in the first place. My concern is that using such shortcuts could eventually become so natural that you begin using them in devices that do not convert them.

I think I may have confused some. But it is to save us time to text. For example - if I type BZ on my phone, my phone will automatically type I'm busy right now, will get back to you soon. Recipient won't see BZ but will see I'm busy right now, will get back to you soon. Sorry for the confusion. :)

@Asylum Oh I see! Luckily, I only text a few people so I don't have that problem when I type on my laptop or on the computer. :) I just don't want to be glued on my phone texting.

No, this is something I hate I do not use them and I asked my friends and family to avoid them if they want to receive a reply from me.

When I didn't have unlimited text message - I would be so annoyed when I get one word or short cut texts that was meaningless

@infatuatedbby NOW I understand! I am not sure that those options are available in a language different from English, I will check, but when I text I text to my family (in Italian) and to my friends (in Italian or French).

@LadyDuck Yes, sorry. I am not a good explainer at times - I apologize. It's just a short cut and I use them on phrases I type often that way I don't have to type the entire thing out!

I may have confused some.. Like you can set what you want (it doesn't have to make sense) for instances you can put 123 and for every time you put 123 it can say for example I am busy! Brb. Does that make sense sort of? :)

This reminds me of a coworker who said something can't remember. I was like wtf. So I repeated it, and was like wtf. I asked a customer child who had to be about 10 years old who told me I felt so old wasn't even funny.

Wow, great tip. I have never used it, however when I get my smarter than me phone, I will see where it is and probably use it. Only because I love to save time and since I am my own boss, time is always of the essence in my world. Thanks again, Aingeal

@infatuatedbby I am right there with you. With my boyfriend, I will often raise an eyebrow at him when he is looking at the phone too much. Haha. I often will turn the phone ringer off and face down while I am working so I am not disturbed.
