Day 39 Proverbs 11:4-11 Proverbs 11:4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death. 5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. 6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness. 7 When a wicked man dies, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perishes. 8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked comes in his stead. 9 A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. 10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. 11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. War doesn’t just take place on foreign soil. War happens in our neighborhoods and in our schools. War happens wherever and whenever someone decides they are going to pick a fight with another person for a multitude of reasons. Just turn on the news and you hear about different factions going up against each other for one reason or another and the outcome is always the same – someone dies. Solomon talked about the day of wrath – war between the just and unjust, the righteous and the wicked. It didn’t matter how rich or poor a person was, war happened to everyone. However, one thing he saw in all the violence was that God delivered the righteous from death. Jesus told Martha on the occasion of her brother’s death, that he was the resurrection and life, and though a person who believed in him died, they would still live. John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe thou this? When we hear about people who seek to destroy others, dying, we rejoice because wickedness has been destroyed. We are also saddened by the loss of life due to the violence. Satan seeks to destroy everyone who puts their faith and trust in God, and Jesus Christ in particular. As Christians, when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, it doesn’t matter what Satan does to the body, the soul lives, and we find ourselves in the presence of God on our death. Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (KJV) John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. 52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou say, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? And the prophets are dead: whom make thou thyself? 54 Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honors me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Solomon knew the righteous people of God would be safe from total death. He also knew that God would destroy the wicked, which is why he said God would deliver the righteous, but the wicked would perish. We have reason, therefore, to rejoice when a man or woman of God face death at the hands of wicked men. They are immediately brought into the presence of God. 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (KJV) Death has no power over anyone who has put their faith and trust in God, and Jesus Christ their Savior and Lord. Satan might try to eliminate the children of God from the earth, but he will never destroy them, instead, all those who seek their destruction, God will destroy. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for taking care of me no matter what Satan does to me. Help me keep my faith and trust in you, knowing that even death will not separate me from you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 15 October 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
