The GOOD OLD Days!

West Haven, Connecticut

Im not saying that im old or calling anyone old but times have definitely changed! I remember playing outside until the sun would start to set and my grandmother would yell at me from the window to come inside. I remember the euphoric feeling I would get when I would hear Mr.Softies ice cream tune approach my neighborhood. I remember hot summer days when a teen with a wrench would open the fire hydrant and we would play around the pump until the water department would come and close it. Those were the days! No iPhones, iPads, or tablets to distract us!

I have to agree with you on those things. They were the good old days. We were always outside driving our bikes or playing games and just hanging out and having fun with the neighborhood kids. We never came back home until the street lights came on then we knew it was time to head home.

Yeah they were some fun times! My kids are only allowed on their tablet or phone for an hour per day. I would never allow them to play in the neighborhood by themselves now a days though. People are insane and I love my babies too much!

I agree, I live in a private residencial area so I let the kids run around outside but only infront of our condo and we leave the screen and balcony open for them to enter etc

Who knows, we would have to disconnect them from distractions. My twins are 5 and the worst thing I could have done was buy them each an iPad. Sometimes I hide the charger so when their devices die I can stall them for a few days from it

Yea those were the good times we had as well. My brothers and me and other friends playing football in our front yard and inventing games with them until sunset when my mom and their moms would yell out to go inside and the struggle for them to get us to go inside lol. I didn't even own a smartphone til an old age lol. In our summers, we used to open up the water holes and wet each other with that since my aunt with the pool moved. We would hear more of the ice cream man with the bell, not the truck in our neighborhood. Man, those were the days and missed those days lol. There are these memes that says, "its a good thing I was born before you, my childhood rocked," with old shows faces and slashed electronics that looks like an iphone lol.

And yes, those were the days when kids in our neighbourhood would play marbles, spin tops, fly kites, catch ants / spiders and let them fight against each other, climb trees...and the list goes on....I wonder how much this generation has missed out

Even way back when I was a kid, my parents had to chase me outside since I was always glued to a book. But, it was fun to play outside with a bunch of neighbourhood kids.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX Yes, the only way to get them to spend lots of time in the fresh air is to be out there with them isn't it.

those days sounds like filled with happiness.. We have a festival here, called Holli.. We play with water splashing on each other .. kind of the same way as the picture. But, mostly teens are the ones who're engaged more in these plays

We are all pretty dependent on those devices, including the children. I have one grandson who is absolutely terrible if he can't be on a device of some sort.

I feel the same way . In my childhood , we are always playing outside with friends and cousins . Specially when its full moon we would play hide and seek . Now , it's sad that the children cannot physically be active because they are so into playing in their phones or tablets .

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I hope I'd be able to enforce it. You know how it is with other kids having their own gadgets, so I'm sure my future kids will see that and will start asking why they don't get to use gadgets like other kids. Hahaha.

That's how I was raised. Good healthy outdoor air. Exercise year round. Barefoot most of the Summer! Watermelon every Forth of July! Did you get to climb trees? Fruit trees? I still dream about that!
