Food Banks

Has anyone on here ever used a food bank before. We might have to. Our reduced income at the moment wont allow us to have heat and eat. The house has to be kept warm. So the food bank is a possibility. Had never planned for not having a job. Went away last year on an almost round the world trip and spent 25k. Glad we did. But now what? Im not really pleading poverty but just concerned about things. We have no debt. Enough money to live. Just about. Been waiting to hear about benefits for 4 weeks now. Wow. Its actually quite sad. We have paid a fortune into the system and always worked hard and never run up debt yet when we need help we get put in a queue behind junkies and people who have never worked. Pisses me off.

There is no shame in having to use a food bank. That is what they are there for. I have in the past needed them and now that I am able I donate to them whenever I have the extra money to do so. I hope you will start getting your benefits soon.

@saulgoodman I understand that and I was raised that way too but sometimes you end up in a bad situation through no fault of your own and you have no choice. I had a hard time with asking for help but sometimes you have to swallow that pride.

@Happy2BeMe Aye well I not be swallowing my pride by going to a food bank. I will sell some stuff we dont use anymore. Ive asked for help. None has been given. I will help us myself like I always have. Already swallowed a whole heap of pride claiming benfits and being patronised by benefits agency robots.

There's something very wrong with our system because those who work hard for years and pay into the pot are always the ones at the back of the queue when it comes to benefits. It pisses me off too.

Aye. 39 years Ive paid in. 39 years wife has paid in. Phoned the place dealing with claim today. They said our claim is being dealt with. Said that every week since Sep 7th. I lost it big time on the phone. Person I was talking to wouldnt let me talk to her boss. So tomorrow my SNP MSP gets involved. They wont piss him around. Cheeky cow today asked me where the 50k I earned in 2014 went and the 40k in 2015. Told her about our round the world in 80 days trip. She said that was irresponsible. Lol

at least when the benefits start coming you'll get a nice lump initially as I'm pretty sure they back date it. I've never used a food bank.

Hi mike. They said it will be back dated to the date the shop ceased trading but I get nothing for the first 7 days. Still in a queue on some " decision makers " desk. Asked who this person was and that info wasnt available!!! Sick of it.
