The Wonders of Stitch Witchery

It sounds almost like a Halloween post, doesn't it? But no it is about a husband with short legs. Al is not tall, 5'6" or so but he has a long body and short legs. I am rather reversed. But back to the subject, I can never buy him pants short enough. I could take them to a tailor to be shortened but that would add $10 or more to the price. Enter stitch witchery. Yes, yes I know my mom taught me to make a hem but really, I am not that good at it and Stitch Witchery doesn't show at all. It is adhesive tape that you place between the hem and the fabric and hit with a hot iron and like magic you have a nice neat invisible hem. I just bought Al some new pants at Kohl's and yesterday I got some Stitch Witchery and now I can shorten his pants. I will have to cut some material, they are way too long but hopefully, they will look good when I am done. I you a great seamstress or tailor or have you discovered the wonders of Stitch Witchery?

It lasts pretty well but you might need to redo if it gets lots of laundering but it is so easy and inexpensive that it really doesn't matter.

I don't own an iron otherwise I love your idea. My hubby is short too and we've had issues getting him pants that fit.

My husband takes them to the local seamstress, I used to do it myself in the olden days now its not something I like to do. Now that i think of it the last few pairs he bought were perfect right from the store... I have heard of Stitch Witchery but never tried it. I have some things that could use something like that....thanks for the tip.

I have to have most of my pants hemmed at the tailor. When I try to hem them myself, one can tell! Lol! Quick! Where can I get that black magic?

I haven't seen one; it could be good to use for sewing. I just use pins to have the folds straight before I sew on them.

I'm not so quick to use stitch witchery on pants, because I'm too afraid of them coming apart, but I've successfully altered some curtains and many many items of clothing over the years. I actually didn't feel that I needed a sewing machine when I first found stitch witchery.

I would not fix a seam with Stich Witchery for that exact reason but for a hem, I find it pretty perfect.

I'm a good seamstress. Buttons and seams were the first thing my mother taught me. The rest I learned in Home Ec.

@BelleStarr I got C's in school, but I've gotten better since I love to sew. My last project was a dress I made completely by hand because I didn't have a sewing machine at the time. I do now, but I have yet to use it. It was my mother's and I also have the manual so I know how to work it. So one of these days I'll get it out and start sewing again.

I have heard of stitch witchery but haven't tried any. We're going to look for Mike some pants for church next week. I will have to remember that and buy some as I always have to hem pants for him. No, I'm not the greatest at it. I like simple and stitch witchery sounds like it's right up my ally. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day

I'm a little like Al then, with slightly shorter legs and always need to get my pants shortened. Unfortunately I do pay the price many times and my husband needs to get his shortened too so stitch witchery would come in handy. There must be lots available around Halloween! ha!

I have never heard of it before but it sounds like a great idea to me. I can hem pants but I would rather not if I didn't have to. My fiance is only 5'6" too so pants are always too long for him. I may have to try this Stitch Witchery out!

We have similar stuff here although I've never tried it for hems. There is invisible mending tape too that is quite good although it doesn't stick on for ever. Mostly I use my trusty sewing machine (a birthday present when I was 16). Funnily enough among my parents it was my Dad who did the sewing alterations and repairs, even though my Mum had trained in needlework (she was a domestic science teacher).

That sounds cool. I wonder where I can buy that in my country. My mom used to own a dresshop. She was an exceent dressmaker, too. But She decided to close it when we were in college. I guess she got tired of it. I have some clothes that I do not want to give away. I will alter them and use that stitch Witchery if I find where I can purchase that.
