Anything but White

After seven hours of painting, the painters are gone! Yay! However, they will be back tomorrow. Our new family room is starting to shape up! The paint before was all white, including the ceiling. I have never had a ceiling painted anything but white. The painter was skeptical, but said the ceiling height and size of the room can carry it off. Our decorator was adamant about it. Are your ceilings white or colored?

I have actually never thought about it but I really like the idea. Mine have always been white it is a problem though, white is just so hard to keep clean.

@DianneN I really like the way that looks, I think I am going to go this way when we paint the living room again. I have high ceilings and triangle windows, so it will look similar.

@mom210 Thank you. I've since heard that painting the ceilings the same as the walls in large, high ceiling rooms is the way to go. Who knew? Lol! You must post a photo of your triangle windows. How unusual!

Yes, white needs constant refreshing to look clean and pure.

The ceiling and the walls are light yellow and look very friendly. The cornice and the doors are white.

My ceilings are white but I would not hesitate to try another color especially with the tall ceilings.

@DianneN My kitchen has 14 foot ceiling so I will have to consider it when I repaint.

I hesitated when the decorator suggested it. I will have to see how it all comes together when the furniture arrives. This is our only room with high ceilings, besides the stairway. Lol!

We have all white ceilings here in our house. I like the colour of your walls, we have a similar colour in both of our bathrooms, its so warm and you can do so much with it.

@DianneN I'm looking forward to reading your posts with some pictures of the "new room" just as things get completed. I love projects, so instead of starting any here, I can live vicariously thru your posts!

@Juliaacv Anything up with the sale of your house? I've been wondering what happened to the last prospects.

Yes, all white ceilings seem to be the norm. Our painter told us that he has been painting colored ceilings in some of the big, new houses going up. One female doctor built a 8000 sq. ft house with 24 foot high ceilings. Can you imagine? Our new bathroom is painted a soft green, the powder room is white with wallpaper trim, and our bathroom is all white. Everything! That way I can play around with pretty colored towels, even white ones. I need more houses. Lol! Thank you. I hope the furniture looks good with this color.

@miniam We papered my older son's big boy bedroom in our first home. This house has wallerpaper above the wainscoting in our dining room and wallpaper trim where the wall meets the ceiling in our guest bedroom and in our powder room.

Our paint is just a number on the can, but it looks like a light taupe. You can see the new paint in my photo.

We still need to paint our interiors after being here for 4 years . The entire inside was completely white . . . a bit cold looking to me. It's still white now, but we will be painting eventually to different colors. Oh, the only ceiling that is not white is in our kitchen which is slightly lighter than the sage kitchen walls. But sigh, everywhere else it is plain white.

@DianneN It DOES go with anything! But I say sigh because we've been wanting to work on this place ourselves - and we just never seem to have time to get to those projects. Well, we did finally paint the outside of the house last December - much easier to just hire someone .

I like the room. My ceilings are all white. Sometimes I think I would like to have them sky blue so it would seem like I am outside when I am in ans I would have blue skies even on gray days.

That would be a lovely idea! When we are in Florida, the ceilings, which are white, look blue from the reflection of the sun on the water. It's so soothing.

I love the windows at the end of the room! And the skylights should let in some beautiful light that will brighten the room. Based on the size of the room, the ceiling height, and the amount of light that will filter in, I think you'll be able to pull it off with the painted ceiling. It's worth a try!

You mean you didn't do the painting yourself? All of my surfaces are off-white here. In a large, airy space, I think you can get away with more "aggressive" colors.

All my walls and ceilings are cream or egg-shell color, if you prefer. White has some advantages though. If you are not getting much light into your home, then white might be the best option. If, on the other hand, you prefer a warm atmosphere, you'll better go with a less harsh color.
