Today is Reptile Awareness Day, a day that I guess means we should be aware that there are reptiles out there! Big ones, little ones, medium-sized ones, ferocious ones, cuddly ones. And yes, @koelemos, I will be getting my pet alligator a little gift today to celebrate. I was thinking a nice big pot roast would make him very happy! Do you have a reptile for a pet?

What are the lizards that seem to be very popular these days? Bearded dragons I think they're called. I wouldn't mind having one of those. To feed to my python of course! lol

@topffer You gave birth to mice? Wow, that's pretty amazing! haha We have a business here in our city that breeds snakes to sell to pet shops. Our local news station did a feature story on them and toured their facility. It was pretty fascinating to see. Millions of snakes being raised in this giant warehouse! And I imagine it takes a lot of mice to feed all those snakes, so that means that somewhere is another business nearby who breeds mice!

When I was little, I was always catching lizards and bringing them home! I think I drove my parents crazy. My daughter, when she was little, would dig up earthworms in our backyard and bring them in. Sometimes, she would come in with dozens of worms in a bucket. I have no idea what she planned to do with all those worms, but I had to keep telling her to put them back outside!

Wow there is a first for everything. Didn't know there was a reptile day or there were reptile enthusiasts but it seems like a good idea because all life is precious and valuable. My first thought was is this an alien detection group?

As a lizard is a reptile, I would say that I have a reptile for pet. There is one lizards that like to live in a flower pot that I keep on my balcony. I check time by time to be sure that it's fine.

@ElizabethWallace We have pet waste stations set up all over the place with the little bags so that owners can scoop up the poop and place it in the bag and throw it in the trash. But does anybody bother to use them? Nope.

It used to just be alligators and snakes. Nowadays, it's alligators, snakes, giant pythons, iguanas, bearded dragons, and about 400 invasive species of other snakes, frogs and lizards. Florida is a perfect breeding ground for sub-tropical and tropical species from all over the world. We're the melting pot of the reptile world!

Never had one as a pet but I love reptiles. The reptile house is always my first port of call when I go to the zoo. I have often liked the idea of a pet iguana, but I do wonder how easy they are to look after and provide for in a domestic environment. I love the look of them though.

Lots of people here in America have iguanas for pets. But maybe they are hard to take care of once they start getting big, because people tend to eventually release them into the wild. Unfortunately, they are well-suited to the Florida environment, and have populated and pretty much taken over the wild areas south Florida.

@moffittjc I think the problem I would have with keeping a reptile would be having to feed it on live mice or whatever it is they eat.

Like yourself, I was already aware of reptiles. It is also good to discover that you intend to treat your alligator on this special day. I did attempt to suggest which type of roast the alligator would like, but the system would not allow me. When I attempted to name the roast it accepted the second word, which was Sapien. Unfortunately it classed the first part as a bad word.

We don't have a reptile. Actually we don't have a pet, at the moment. Honestly, though, if we were to get a pet, I wouldn't want to get a reptile. It's nothing personal, but I'm just not a fan. I don't feel comfortable around reptiles. It's not my thing.
