My chicken sandwich tasted a lot like steak - why?

I told you we were going to the Rocky Top Cafe and my dinner was going to be a grilled chicken sandwich.....the best laid plans..... We pulled up to the front door and there were no lights on and there was a hand-written sign on the door stating that they are closed due to 'permit' issues. We aren't sure what that means, how long it was closed or when it will open. After sitting there stunned for a few minutes we decided to head back the way we had come and go over to the lake. The Lakehouse Restaurant does a nice grilled chicken sandwich, I had one there last week after our yard sale. We pulled into the parking lot and there were no cars - but there was a big note on the front door. My husband went to check it out - closed due to a small kitchen fire, to reopen Saturday. The air smelled like smoke. So we sat there a little while stunned....what are the odds both places were 'closed'. So, option number three was Uncle Gus - it's mainly a place that serves smoked foods, but they do cook a rib eye steak 'normal'. (I can't eat smoked foods.) Not only was it open there were cars in the parking lot LOL. It seems we had just missed some sort of senior citizen meeting and they were slowly making their way to their vehicles. I didn't get my grilled chicken sandwich but I did have a nice steak, baked potato and salad. Something else they have that I really like - pink lemonade. Not many places have that. Today we eat at home, we're having shrimp and I know 'my kitchen' will be working, no fires and we have no permit issues. Some days you just can't win. Well, you were lucky, because problems usually come in three.

Yes, and no we know more details about both - the first rest. is sold to new owners, the second (fire) was in an RV parked next to the rest. Just smoke smell in rest.

@AbbyGreenhill I hope the sale hasn't ruined a good restaurant

@Jessicalynnt I think it will make it better. The new owner is the girl who has been the manager on a daily basis, she seems to be pretty sharp.

And twice in a row too. You were really meant to have a steak I think.

Once in a while we have that issue. A Chinese cafe sits a couple of doors down from the Thai place. Out of the blue one of them will be closed due to vacations. I do not like the Chinese place cause its breaded stuff is not fried in hot enough oil etc. Pretty low cooking. The Thai place served up some tasty hot pineapple and rice and tofu and tomatoes like night. With peanut sauce. Must have that.

I wish we had a decent chinese place closer than an hour or more away. They don't do chinese well in the south LOL.

Wow. What are the odds? I'm glad the new ownership in the one restaurant seems like she'll be on the ball.

In our area mom and pop restaurants usually don't last long so hopefully the two no-shows that day will keep up the effort to stay in business.

What a strange thing to come upon 2 restaurants in one night where they had to be closed for unusual reasons. I am sorry you didn't get your chicken sandwich.
