The problem living around so many older people...

is that some of them die. I wrote about the sudden death of my 70 year old buddy Rick. There was a nice memorial for him at the clubhouse on Sunday. He was a presence in our little community and will be missed. I saw his (almost) wife Karen this morning. She is doing okay.
But I learned yesterday that two more have passed in the last week. I did not know either the man nor the woman well, yet it is affecting. Every time I hear an emergency vehicle, I wonder if they are coming here.
I am in excellent health fortunately. Anne suffers from fribromyalgia and now takes blood thinners to help avoid a stroke, but is still very active really.
Sorry that this is not an upbeat post this time, but reality lurks around each corner in life as we grow older. It was weighing on me a bit, so I thought I would just express it.

This certainly is a reality as we age. My husband is in his 70s and I am in my 60s. My aunt is in her 90s and feels that all her friends are gone. Indeed, she is the only one of her generation in our family
When the seniors reconvene for hockey each fall there is generally someone who is not returning. This is the first year, all who participated last year, returned this fall.
I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Take care.

The grave comes to all men,we can't help it.I remember there is a saying "Tomorrow is never clear,our time is here",so we should live life to the full for the rest of our life.You have been playing sports all the time ,so you will live longer than the ordinary people.

Yes, my friend Rick had not taken good care of his health and one of the other people had been in a wheel chair for some time.

@JamesHxstatic Hmm... I referred to those who are considered old, but to my eyes they are not. Still they die of age related problems.

for my mother and aunt (also my father when he was still alive) they go so they can meet people from their hometown whom they haven't seen or talked to for a long time. but i guess it's harder in your case because you're living in a community and have regular contact with each other. i'm glad karen is doing well.

yes sir, that'd sure bring a person down :( 'f course one ne'er knows when their ticket'll be called, but bein' 'round well seasoned folks such seems to occur more frequent. the plus side's the knowledge 'n companionship those folks've brought to other there. their lives should be celebrated 'n not fergotten.

That is a very good and wise outlook. I spent two hours at ping pong with some well seasoned men and women yesterday with plenty of high spirits.

It's understandable, in the circumstances, that you feel this way.
My parents are going through something very similar at the moment. In the last year they have lost my mother's brother and three close neighbours.
All we can do is to be there for those who have lost loved ones.

It is just a momentary pause in my usual good spirits I think. Your family's losses are devastating in such close proximity. You are right with that last line.
