Oh no, how stupid can I get?

I suppose that the only logical answer would be that there is no limit, as I seem to keep proving. The evenings are definitely getting much colder lately, so I decided that it was time to make a good old Lancashire winter dish, potato hash. While out shopping today I bought potatoes, vegetables and corned beef. Since I knew that I had Oxo cubes at home I assumed that I had everything I needed. On arrival home I realised that I do not have a large pan. I remember now that it got burned a while ago and I threw it out, but never got around to replacing it. It looks as though I am shopping for a large pan tomorrow.

lol Couldn't make a smaller version? I have more than one large pan but then I do cook a lot. I make a list on my phone of items I need to purchase, it helps me to overcome the memory issues that are part of aging or just being distracted.

I always write a list on a small sheet of paper with which I go shopping. I sometimes forget it at home but having written it helps me to remember the items.

We all do things like that so don't feel bad. You let your tummy lead the way and it led you astray so you're not at fault. Heck, today I intended to get a USB converter so that I could run a HDMI cable from my PC to my TV and out I go to the store. I remembered the milk, coffee, vinegar and butter but now that I'm reading this I'm reminded I had actually intended to get that converter, not the other stuff Life is a beach and we let our toes play in the sand as it sifts.

USB to HDMI, does such a converter actually exist? I may be mistaken but I would have thought that those two technologies were not compatible.

At least you had the sense to write it down @hereandthere I'm so confident that I won't forget that I never write things down which is really stupid. Last month I went shopping for cat litter twice and bought everything else I thought I needed yet no litter, talk about stupid.

"now that I'm reading this I'm reminded I had actually intended to get that converter, not the other stuff " - that happens to me, too, even with a list in my phone because either i ignore the list, confident that i remembered everything, or i was speedreading and my eyes missed it.

I am surprised that you didn't write " l large pan" on your shopping list as soon as you got rid of the other one.

It was not really suitable for pancakes, but would have been handy for Hash Wednesday.

I did have some the following day after buying a new pan. Of course it is always more desirable when you cannot make it.

I suppose that I could buy a cauldron, which would cover me for Halloween as well. I wonder what potato hash would taste like with toad's eyes and bat wings?

I've not done that particular thing lately, thrown out a pan and forgotten about it, but I have lost a pan or lid before when one or the other of s put in in the wrong cupboard. I've been planning on making BLT's for supper for a few days now. This afternoon my husband offered me some leftover sloppy joes which I did have and he had a hamburger which almost used up all the bread. After cooking the bacon for a bit, I realized I needed to go out in the snow to the store before eating so we could have our BLTs. I should have noticed that earlier in the day.

@Asylum We wouldn't have had much of a supper without bread, plus it only snowed less than an inch anyway and melted the next day.

I was so certain that I had everything. The fun came when opened the bag of potatoes and reached for the pan to peel them into. At first I wondered where it could be, then I remembered throwing it out.

This is why God made shopping lists. I make them for all sorts of things, like replacing items that get ruined or thrown away.

I can normally remember precisely what needs replacing, but since there was no urgency to replace the pan it became a distant memory.

@Asylum I use lists for such things, and leave my mind available for more important things, like remembering how to make a PowerPoint presentation.

Potato hash is my only use for a large pan. The size is perfect for using a whole tin of corned beef and it is so easy to reheat the following day.

@Asylum This is what happens to me too. I write the note to buy something and put it aside. When I clean my desktop, most of the time, I throw all those little pieces of paper and this is how I lose my precious notes.
