Here in the good ole USA we celebrate Halloween on October 31. Some countries do, and some don't.
We live on a circular lane that leads onto a windy road, which leads into another road. That road will take you to a small center of town and branch off to more traveled roads.
The homes here are far apart. The minimum acreage is 1 1/2 acres. We have 2 acres.
This makes trick or treating difficult for the little ones. Our lane has a few teens, and fewer younger ones. Therefore, the parents usually drive their little ones from house to house.
We get very few trick or treaters these days, but have a large bag of candy just in case.
When I was old enough, I walked everywhere. The more candy I got, the happier I was.
What is Halloween like in your neighborhood?

Here there are pretty much no trick or treaters, we live on a main road. We take our kids to other neighborhoods so they can get candy. =)

Homes here are all close together but not many kids on this block. Last year we only had one trick or treater! Most bring their kids to the mall or Halloween events as its more safer.
Great photo of doodles :)

Ma didn't buy us candy when we were little but she did allow us to eat dark chocolate @DianneN neither of us really liked it that much which was probably her point to begin with.
I wsa 11 or 12 when mounds came on the market and those I did like a little but they were too sweet.

In twenty years we have never had a single Trick or Treater. We live too far in the country.

Trick-or-treating is a relatively new phenomenon here in the UK, it was unheard of when I was a child but then it was imported around the late 1980s/1990s. But many kids took to the 'trick' part with great enthusiasm and there were horrible incidents, even a few deaths.
Currently things seem to have settled down and nowadays some people take their children around their locality, generally to people they know or whose houses are decorated, making it look as though they are up for it! I never have but my daughter has been to friends' houses for a little party and as part of it they have all gone round neighbours' places there.
We have recently moved house so I don't know what to expect here as to whether anyone will call. None of the close neighbours have young children any more.

How awful for the tricks! Years ago we had frightening things happen, such as needles inserted in candy. My father always checked our candy carefully and threw away any unwrapped items. My kids always went to homes in our neighborhood where we knew all the neighbors. We also checked their loot as my dad had checked ours. Better safe than sorry.

I live on a very high hill. The roads are hard to walk in the daytime. At night, wildlife comes out to hunt. There are very very few children living up here at all. Their parents take them elsewhere to trick or treat. So it's very quiet here, like always.

@DianneN That's a side benefit. I'm here because I love the weather, the architecture and the view.

There seems to be a lot of trick or treaters around - but we are never at the door to greet them (we are out with the kids trick or treating ourselves!). But we don't darken the house . . . we do leave a pool of candy in front of the door with a sign that says to only take a couple pieces. The houses are hit or miss these days . . . a lot of people don't want to deal with giving out candy anymore. So even though our houses are together, there are many dark houses in between to walk past. I've been seeing a lot of teenagers trick or treating these days - like college age kids!

@DianneN You know what, if I put that sign out there, parents seem to be good about having their kids abide by the rules (my sign has a grim reaper on it ). But it's when I take the sign away at the end of the night, I know I can trust some greedy kid to take it all . I only buy something that no one wants a lot of anyway - like regular lollipops or Smarties. But yah, there are a lot of "old" kids who just want free candy!

I'm not surprised that you don't get many trick-or-treaters, living where you do. We don't either but that's because it's not a tradition over here.
Great photo - how did he do that? Did he just put a black background behind the black cat?

I had about 30 little ones and then I turned off the light. The older kids show up later and I enjoy the little ones but not the big ones... When we lived in the city as a child I walked around the neighborhood with my brother. When we moved to the country we had 200 acres so no neighbors...The church kids gathered together and adults would drive us around (often my dad because he was a big kid at heart) to the neighbors we knew.

We don't have Halloween here.
But, I've seen a horn's hairband being sold..
Haha...so we won't celebrate, but just wear it and roam..
