Today is All Souls day. I cannot visit the graves of my parents huh huh huh , I missed them. I cannot also visit others close to me, I am so far away. I just pray for the eternal repose of their souls. All memorial parks in Ph starting yesterday full of people visiting the graves of their beloved and lighting some candles. That is what we do in Philippines as part of our culture and tradition. But what I noticed here in Auckland, they do not visit the graves of the beloved, as a matter of fact, we were invited for a party this All Souls Day, my goodness, so no choice, I have to dance with the music, we attended. We were served 1 plate food containing beans , very small cheese and junk foods .I asked someone of those people visit graves of their dead relatives, his answer was,"no" " not practice here practice here," he said. It is really different, much different in many ways here and in my country of birth. They are so practical. Maybe also in your country, right? Thank you guys. Image is taken this day in a party

Very unusual practice. I visit my parents' graves any time of year and there are definitely no parties.

@DianneN ,In New Zealand, many do not have religion and many do not believ in God.They had their campaign here last year to " NO TO GOD:, they won't prosper for there are so many Filipinos here almost 150,000 all God believers and some from Fiji and other countries God believers. When I go to church here, there are so few attendees, but during mass where all good for Filipinos attendees exrend outside church.

@cacay1 That is awful in my book, but to each their own. I'm glad you and your fellow countrymen still follow your beliefs!

@cacay1 That's a shocking fact ro me. I can't believe there are still a lot of people who don't believe in GOD. I'm not judging them but I guess they should take time to read the bible and other books related to our creator. There are a lot of resources if they want to. The time is ripe. We have to turn to GOD and believe in HIM.

@JudyEv , That wondered my why they were so excited on that day of the deads. Maybe it is not their tradition.

@cacay1 I guess not. It seems strange to me though and I wouldn't have thought our cultures were that much different.

It's Halloween here, then there's memorial day where we visit the dearly departed. I do miss the tradition back there, but I know that my family knows I will always be with them in thoughts and prayers.

That's not their tradition so they don't do it . Maybe they visit whenever they can . It's nice that you seem to be always partying and meeting new friends there . That's good , so you will enjoy your stay there .

It's not a tradition in England either. I'm sure you thought of your parents even if you weren't able to 'visit' them. This post is proof of that.

i bet such t'was diff'cult fer ya, hon. diff'rent countries, e'en diff'rent parts'f the same country 've diff'rent customs they adhere to. i'd not call such 'practical', i admire the folks'n yer homeland with their many rituals 'n beliefs they still hold so dear'n pass through the generations. that sorta thingy 'tis mostly lost here'n the u.s. 'n many other places.

It becomes a sort of family reunion, aside from Christmas day. In other countries they do not have the same practice as we do here on All soul's Day.

You can asked your departed loved ones to visit you instead hehehe! Are the couple in the photo your neighbors? Why not try looking out for valmnz? She's a retired teacher in NZ and is making herself busy with writing a book. I think she lives somewhere near Wellington.
