Chhath - The feast that edifies me

Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival dedicated to the Hindu Sun God, Surya. The Chhath Puja is performed in order to thank Surya for sustaining life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes on the members of the family. It is observe by the people of northern India with religious joy and fervor. What impresses me most is the dedication of the womenfolk in performing the fast and rituals. I love to sing and hum the Chhath songs which have a particular sweetness and flavor. This year Chhath will be observed and celebrated from November 4 to November 7.
