A Potato has What?

I was watching a video yesterday when I heard a throw away comment that surprised me. As always when I hear something that I didn't know and it surprises me I like to check it out before I start telling other people, OK I hear you thinking what is it that a potato has that surprised you. When I tell you, I think that it will surprise you too. Human beings have 46 chromosomes, this I knew. But what I didn't know what that the spud the lowly potato has 2 more chromosomes than we do. It is good to know that I can still learn new and surprising things even at my age lol... I wonder what other surprising things I will find out today. What have you learned recently that has surprised you? In response to a comment I found this out Ophioglossum reticulatum commonly known as Adders-tongue is a type of fern and it has the largest number of chromosomes at 1260 This I think just goes to prove when it comes to Chromosomes size really doesn't matter,lol... Its all down to the Wranglers, I mean Jeans, no I mean Genes lol...

Love that last sentence Maggs. As you say, it's amazing what we can learn here.

@maggs224 We come to Spain on Tuesday, and I believe that there's a small window of a few days between you returning and Sue dashing off again. Perhaps we could meet then. We'll be there until 6th December. Gee - I wish I had someone like Sue to pack for me!

@jaboUK I'm glad that you liked it Janet, I thought it was a bit of fun, but not quite up to your witty rhyming standard. Where are you? Sue has just finished sorting out my packing we fly to the UK tomorrow but Sue is home. I look forward to seeing you both when we get back. hugs Maggs

Something - I think it might be the mosquito - has a much greater number of chromosomes than we do.

How about that? I must admit I've never thought about anyone but the animal kingdom having chromosomes.
