Dayn Perry reports the news on Saturday New York Mets outfielder Yoesnis Cespedes has applied for free agency after he turned down $47 million dollars on the remaining two years of his three year, $75 million contract before the start of the 2016 Major League Baseball season that had an opt out clause in his contract. Cespedes can command a huge salary in the free agent market which is one reason he decided to turn down the remainder of his current salary that the Mets were willing to pay him. He could return to the Mets before the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season if the price is right.

The market was weak for him last year that's why he returned to the Mets. We'll see how he fares this year. The Angels are off the market as they acquired Maybin.

I do not blame him for jumping into the free agent market in 2016.
