Favorite Raiders Players #2 - Howie Long

I'm excited to go to a bar tonight to watch the Raiders play on Monday Night Football, so what better way to get me going than with #2 in my Favorite Raiders Players series, Defensive End Howie Long. Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long played his entire 13 year career with the Raiders, and the dude was a beast. Long finished with 91.5 Quarterback sacks, 10 fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. All of that work paid off. Howie Long won one Super Bowl with the team. He was an eight time Pro Bowler, three time First Team All Pro, two time Second Team All Pro, and was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1985. He was also named to the NFL's 1980 All Decade Team. Long was not a character like many former Raiders were, but I did read an amusing story in former coach Tom Flores' book Tales of the Oakland Raiders. Apparently, during Long's rookie training camp, his grandma would call each night to ask the Raiders staff if Howie was behaving himself. How embarrassing!

Howie is not only one of the best Raiders of all time but one heck of an actor as well. He seems like a nice guy to a team that has the image of pirates which I can relate to being a native of Panama via the former Canal Zone.
