Day 77 Proverbs 13:10 Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. You have all seen people with misplaced pride. They brag about everything they do to the point you want to gag with all their accomplishments, which you are certain have been embellished to make them look good. However, those who keep to the shadows, giving knowledge when necessary are well respected among their peers. They do not dress to impress or stop someone to tell them their latest exploits. Solomon wrote about people with misplaced pride. He said pride goes before the fall. Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Eventually all the misplaced pride a person has will get them in trouble. There is always someone who knows the truth about their exploits and when necessary, make the matter known. When that happens, their life will collapse like a house of cards. As Christians, the only pride we are to have is in our relationship to Jesus Christ. Paul said that for him to live is Christ. Everything else in his life was insignificant by comparison. He had a desire to go to be with Christ, but he knew that to do so would hurt the body of believers. He put his desires aside to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a straight betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. 25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; 26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. When you set aside your agenda, and take yourself out of the limelight with a need to tell everybody about your exploits, and instead, set your agenda in what you can do for the body of Christ, people will benefit more as they see your focus is not on yourself, but on Jesus Christ. Let your life be found in Christ Jesus. When you do, everything you do will fall into place: your home, job, and social life because Jesus will be the head of your life, not you. Let’s pray: Father, help me place my focus on you and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let me say with Paul, that for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Let everything I am be found in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 22 November 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Yes, pride can be misplaced, so it is best kept in its place.
