Jeff Passan reports the news the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday have signed to a three year, $24.5 million dollar contract former Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro. Castro, 29, played six seasons with the Houston Astros before he entered the free agent market at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. What is making some baseball pundits scratch their heads is that Castro had a batting average of .210 in 329 at bats which is not exactly the second coming of a catcher will great hitting skills. However the Twins signed Castro to a huge contract since they had competition from the Houston Astros, the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Atlanta Braves for his services to join their team before the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Castro was a member of the 2013 American League All Star Team as a member of the Houston Astros. His strength as a catcher is his defensive skills and his ability to work with pitchers.

Good grief! I thought teams like Minnesota were trying to lower payroll. This will up the price of all better players.

I was thinking the same thing that the Twins paid Castro too much money since he is not the second coming of Johnny Bench.
