I wanted to know how many enter contests that some stores have to get you to buy in their store? Sears and K-mart regularly offer them here and they are free to enter online contests. I just won enough points to get a nice free item this weekend. I was more than surprised and quite happy to know there is one item that will be a family gift. I haven't decided what it will be yet. On Saturday, I'll pick an item knowing some of the past ones it will be one I really took time to think about buying. One year I purchased folding chairs and they have been used a lot. Another year it was a folding table and we have built a lot of crossword puzzles on it. Over the years have considered solar lights, but that gets removed every time I think of the year the solar Christmas Lights didn't light for a complete week and my husband went out and bought lights for our new house. He said there needs to be lights that actually light not look at them and hope they illuminate. If you won money at a store what would you buy?

Canadian Tire used to give out money every time you made a purchase in which you paid cash. They literally had their own money. I saved up enough to buy a outdoor garbage can for my husband for Christmas. Most people were donating their Canadian Tire money back to the store to go towards their Jump Start program which helps families pay for their kids to participate in sports. Canadian Tire has now gone to a points card. Sears and Zellers have points cards but I think we had to use them towards an item in their points rewards catalogue. I usually just stick to Air Miles purchases where when I get a certain amount of points I can cash in dollars off my purchase.

@Fishmomma I don't use the Air Miles for airfare, especially now since my daughter works for an airlines and we get free flights (except the taxes). Occasionally she will even waive the baggage fee. Here we can set our Air Miles as to how much you want for Dream miles, and how much for cash back. I have it at 25%/75%. I used some Dream miles to enter contests. Oh, and I'm the one that does ALL garbage duty.

@patgalca I like that plan of Dream Miles and Cash Back where you can set it to what you want to have now. That is great to be able to fly with a free flight and she will even wave baggage fees, which are steep on some of the airlines.

That is a great way to reduce air fares. I like the gift to your husband, who will get lots of use for it. The program at Canadian Tire sounds like it helped a lot of people and can understand the program changed, as many have in the United States. Thanks for the information.

We receive a $5 money voucher every $500 we spend in the stores. I use the vouchers for my usual weekly grocery shopping.

That is great and helps to lower the grocery bill. Mine has gone up, as less stores are accepting coupons printed online. People were printing lots of times and the stores said no more internet printed coupons.

Yes, I thought it might be a way to make some money and doesn't cost anything. Several people I know have won well and I did get movie tickets last time. A gift for the family at no cost is exactly what I needed to feel better.

@infatuatedbby I entered the Sears Contest on the web site, as they have a lot of different contests. The contests give some prizes and some points. I was surprised when the e-mail arrived when it was over to receive the winning prize and it had movie codes. I like the ones that you can pick your prize.

I have been sitting here thinking about the money. I'm considering large lights for inside that runs on batteries. We have a lot of power outages this year. Thanks for posting.
