What do you get for the person who has everything?

This is a serious question and I'm looking for some ideas. I'm quite lost. My niece and I see each other only once a year. I've invited her here many times since I moved here in April, but she's always too busy. So shopping for a Christmas gift for her is difficult, to say the least. I don't know what she likes anymore! She's a doctor, making very good money. She can buy all the things she wants, and she does. She has her own home, three cats, a new car and while she's in her 50s, she's still very much a kid at heart. She has an extensive collection of anything and everything with the Peanuts characters. She also has a vast collection of Pez dispensers. I've been looking to add to her Peanuts collection, but I haven't found anything worthy yet. If she was on your Christmas list, what kinds of things would you be thinking of to buy? I'm trying to think "outside the box" (so to speak), but it's so hard for me. With Cyber Monday coming quickly, I thought I could come up with some ideas and then go shopping on Monday to see what I can find. Any ideas? Thanks! -Claudia- image from pixabay

Give her a goat or a pig! There are reliable organisations which 'sell' animals online. You donate money and get a document stating that you've bought a goat, for example. The goat is given to a needy family in a developing country and you can give the document to someone as a gift. Unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of the charity which does that. If you can't find something on the net, get back to me. I have an online friend who knows reliable organisations working in third world countries. Have a look at kiva. You may find something there. Not animals but ways to support people.

You mentioned my two favorite farm animals, you grabbed my attention! Good to know about this kind of sponsorship, I heard of Kiva before, I'd love to "invest" there someday. But adopting a goat or a pig is like... fantastic!

@CRK109 You're welcome. Spread the news! More people may have the problem what to give to people who have everything.

I really love this idea. I know that if someone did this in my name, it would make me so happy! I am going to look around and see what I can find. At least it's a gift that has great meaning, and that speaks volumes to me. Thank you so much!

Outside the box? What about the box itself? So she can put everything inside. If you could find a nice wooden box or a Peanuts themed box. Then of course you can add more inside, the box itself can be a quite unique gift though.

Oh my gosh - I have the very same problem regarding my sister in law. She is in her 50s too, successful in her carrier, has no kids, has cats and an English bulldog, has a nice townhome which she shares with another gal, loves to go out and travel, has the best clothes and jewelry - etc. She has similar type friends - so I'm sure she is not lacking of "things" from others. I have tried to think outside the box by looking at her health food and relaxation interests (like yoga or happy reads) but I can only stretch that so far each and every year. Anyway! Someone suggested to me to give a year's worth of "fruit of the month" or "monthly crate of local farmers organics" . . . not sure of the correct terms, but there are clubs and organizations that do that. Not sure how much that is though. But it is something different and useful - not just another thing to add to the things they may already have.

@CRK109 Ohh, I'll have too see if they have quarterly ones too - yah, I saw that the monthly ones are rather expensive! Perhaps we can find something local to the ones we gift them too.

I've seen some of those and while they are a bit out of my price range right now, I might be able to find something for maybe 3 or 4 months rather than the whole year! Great idea! I'm going to look around and see what I can find. Thanks so much!!!

Yes, I am thinking of taking a photo of her new kitten and putting that on a mug for her. I think she might like that! Thanks, Judy!

I would suggest something along the personal line that she can have as a keepsake as the years go on. I know there are places online (maybe Etsy) that have unique pieces of jewelry that say the love between an aunt and a niece is forever. I think I've also seen coffee mugs with this saying too

I've been wandering around Etsy for days. I picked up a gorgeous piece of jewelry for a friend but, so far, haven't seen anything that I think my niece would like. I'm sure I'm thinking too hard about this, but I don't like giving gifts just to give something. I can usually find something for her pretty quickly but this year has been so hard.

Sometimes you can find a personal "junktique" item. Hubby is polishing a copper kindling carrier to send his sister who has a fireplace. It will be beautiful.

sometimes you just have to get what the person remembers the most.

I think I would give her something a little more personal, like a big jar of argon oil or something else in that line. Skim thru Amazon or QVC - sometimes when I"m stuck I'll get an idea. A lot depends on how much you want to spend. Jewelry is nice but not cheap. My niece just got a puppy and she posted a photo of her and the pup (head shots) on Facebook, so I took the photo and used Walmart photo center and had an ornament made for her. I will give her money also but I thought it was a cute idea and not expensive.

@CRK109 Use Walmart photo center - the ornaments are reasonably priced. I used them for my Christmas photo cards and they only cost .28 each.

Wonderful idea of making an ornament from her photo! My niece did send me some photos of her new kitten and I could make something from that for her! I'm sure she'd love that! I do shop through Amazon and QVC quite a bit, so I have been looking, but at least now I have a better direction in mind! Thanks for some great ideas!

I quite like Malu's suggestion of a goat or something from a charity. There are some nice cute cat books around too since she likes cats. You have some good suggestions in the comments so I hope you come up with something you're happy with. Don't forget to let us all know what you choose. :)

If you can't buy her a material thing maybe an experience would be a good idea. Like a pottery class or half hour in a racing car, something along those lines.

I read this last night and had a 'thunk' on it and I still haven't come up with a decent idea. Well, maybe something that includes the moggies, that'ed work on me!
