i want some pink fluffy slippers

Today I discovered that I am disrespectful, rude, dumb, selfish and lazy. This saddens me because I think I'm generally quite nice. I know I have my moments, but usually I believe I'm considered to be a good, kind, quietly lovely person. My crime? I turn the page corners of books down, instead of using a bookmark or a scrap of paper. I am evil. EVIL!!! I only do it to my own personal books, or library books {which, to be fair, I own collectively}. I would never dream of doing it with a book borrowed from a friend, nor with a book that is old, or a limited/first edition. I don't understand why it's such a crime. I don't understand why doing it makes me disrespectful and selfish. A well-loved book is not pristine. A well loved book falls apart. It's been read again and again and again. Coffee cup rings, moisture from rain, tears or spilt drinks, fingerprints from melted chocolate, corners turned down, creaky spines, loose pages, notes in the margin ... these are the things that show you a book is loved and enjoyed. I would love to be a published writer, and if I were I would thoroughly like to see my books so well loved that they're falling apart and looking the worse for wear, creased corners, warts and all. I apologise if that makes me selfish and lazy.

You are a published writer. You wrote this and it was published. You also get paid here, which makes you a professional writer.

Ooh, I never looked at it like that. However, I'd rather be published in paper form!

I just figured that out. I mean I always been like that. But whenever I see them I always feel ashamed of myself because I don't want my books to be a mess. So i started using bookmark.

I would feel VERY guilty if I did it with a book that didn't belong to me or the library! I have a LOT of bookmarks, but they're scattered everywhere and even when I have one on me I can't break the habit very easily!

@Poppylicious Yay. Just try to remember using bookmarks. I think it's okay to do that if it's your own book.

My father used to turn the page corners down instead using a bookmark. I am reading a book I took from his library in my Mom's house and seeing those corners brought back memories. I am touching the pages who my beloved Dad touched. I do not think he did something evil. I wear pink fluffy slippers while I read on our couch.

@Poppylicious I will keep this book. It is so true that little things bring back lovely memories.

The silliest little things can bring back lovely memories. Treasure those turned down corners!

i dunno if'n such makes one 'selfish 'n lazy'. trouble bein' that some do such with all books, includin' those that don't belong to 'em. i've gotten some from the library here to where's they'd folded the pages down so far that o'er time parts come'p missin'.

It's been a pet peeve of mine for people to fold the pages or turn the pages down. But at the same time I've became more lax about people doing it, as long as it's their book and not mine, I'm fine with it.

I am actually one of the people who don't like the pages folded down in my books....kinda OCD about it. But i wouldn't accuse someone who doesn't do it to be selfish and lazy...i understand that this kinda OCD is my problem and not everyone needs to cater to it. I love my books and i just need them to be ....taken care of. I have read some books several times....but i keep them in good condition. I guess we all have our thing right? weird lil quirks?

We do, don't we? It would be terribly boring if we were all the same. :-)

Well, at the beginning of reading this I thought, hmmmm, never fold the corner of books! But by the end you made me think perhaps I'm far too judgmental.
