I am not sure what to bring if I should even bother. The fact the things they put us through and then spend money I don't have. I was thinking grabbing a bag of chips at work sI work until 12am.

You know I work third shift. Whenever we have an employee appreciation time meal? The third shift NEVER gets anything from it. We usually end up getting the scraps, last glass of soda, last scraping of dessert type deal. I don't purchase anything for the occasion because of it.

@ricki_911 That doesn't sound like fun at all. So bringing something is essentially mandatory?

Well they all have money to blow. The last time I made things they got thrown out. Plus, I work until 12am then have to work at 12pm (with an hour drive to work). Plus, I have to make 10 dozen cookies by Sunday.

@marguicha it was a manager several managers ago. But again they'd understand not this manager.

I know they will go on and on. I have the 10 dozen cookies to make by Sunday as well. So I'll grab a bag of chips that's it.

Sometimes we have to do something we don't want to do. Your idea is awesome grabbing a bag of chips at work, hopefully I would have the same thinking when I have to spend money I don't have next time.

They will whine about it. Usually they toss half it out which is why I don't want to spend money.

I also don't like potlucks because I don't cook and it is such an inconvenience to have to bring food. At work, we do eat together as a team, mostly on special occasions or to celebrate some sort of success. We have a fund. We receive a small team fund from HR (Php200 or $4 per person twice a year,) and each person also contributes Php50 or $1 every pay day. When we join contests at work and win (we usually don't,) there's usually prize money that we can add to our team fund. On Dec 23 we will have a Christmas meal at work, and we have saved enough to have a really nice mini-feast. Potlucks don't work so well because not everyone contributes equally, but giving a small amount to put up a fund has proved successful. From this fund we also get money to buy a small gift for whoever is celebrating a birthday.
