1956 – Guy Mitchell releases “Singing the Blues” and knocks Elvis out of the number one spot. 1958 – The Teddy Bears have a number one hit with “To Know Him Is To Love Him”. 1966 – Tom Jones tops the U.K. charts for seven weeks with his version of “The Green, Green Grass of Home”. 1972 – Carly Simon has a number one hit with “You’re So Vain”. 1973 – The Carpenters come out with their second number one hit “Top Of the World”. 1982 – Michael Jackson comes out with his milestone album “Thriller”. Amazing that Guy Mitchell could knock off Elvis but I think Elvis did better in the long run.
