Too Little Space to Put on a Big Sparkle

United States
December 1, 2016 7:55pm CST
When we moved to our new place I knew I had to downsize my collection of Christmas decorations. I had 7 totes filled with decorations of all sorts. I managed to purge and donate a lot of it. I am now down to 4 totes. Even so, with such a small place I have no space to display all of my decorations. I have had some of these decorations for many years. So, this weekend I will take down the every day decorations to make room for my cheery holiday decor. Hopefully I'll find enough room for what is most important.

Those are hard choices to make. I hope you took photos to save the memories of things you cannot use.

Most were plastic ornaments that I bought when we had little money to purchase the good stuff. Now I wish I kept some of them. Our granddaughter spied the box of ornaments and her eyes lit up. "BALL!" Um, no. She has a ball pit that she plays in a lot! Gonna be interesting to say the least!

Decorations do take up so much room, and downsizing is so difficult!

I could probably go through them again and part with much more. However, I choose to hang on to what I have left.

@Jessicalynnt I thought I would get so much done this morning. Nope. Now I am toasted and waiting for the coffee to kick in.

I hope you do. I threw out 99% of my Christmas decorations when I moved. They were past their prime and I needed new ones. The only ones I didn't throw away were some ornaments I got from my mother from our Christmases growing up, and those I got as gifts from siblings. Just a small handful. Now that I have my tree, I can buy some decorations to cheer up my new apartment.

I kept many of the old ornaments as long as they weren't broken. The broken ones were tossed. The plastic ornaments were donated.

@just4him I had given my children some of my older ornaments and now regret it. That was many years ago. They no longer have these ornaments. I thought they would take better care of them and they didn't.

@ElusiveButterfly I didn't have any old ornaments except from my mother, and those I would never donate or give away.

I also had to downsize and I only have one tote. I went from 7 rooms filled with holiday joy to two rooms with almost nothing. And I can't find a couple of things I thought I'd brought with me. When my next check comes in, I'm going to go to Target and get a few things. Like a wreath. I don't have a wreath for my apartment door and I almost cry when I see that others have put theirs up. So that's on my list.

I tossed out our old wreath. It had to be replaced. Haven't found a replacement for it yet.

@CRK109 I like to look at it close up too. They don't look the same as they do in a catalog or online,

@ElusiveButterfly I've looked online and there are so many pretty ones. But I'm going to need to get myself into a store to look at them up close and see what size they are.

We have two big boxes of decorations and do not use a lot of them, but this year my mom found places and both the boxes are almost completely empty, minus the boxes and bags they are put away in. We only have three areas in my home to put things, but it is great to be festive!

I love decorating for Christmas. Even after most of the decorations come down, I leave up the winter themed ones for a few more weeks.

@DesirousDreamer We do the same. Last year it was almost two weeks into the month before I started stripping the tree.

I will wait until tomorrow morning. I am an early bird so it will be easy to get up and get it started.

I glanced at the lights and tried to find the ones I need to place in the kitchen window. I know they are buried deep within the box. Tomorrow I will look for them.

it can be difficult to find space for decorations sometimes. You must have a lovely selection to choose from now.

I am so bad when it comes to collecting ornaments. I probably will buy a few more this weekend when I am out shopping.

I have to find a spot to put the decorations. I believe that I have a couple of places where they will stand out.

I have reduced a lot the number of decorations that I put up for Christmas. It's too much work and I am no more in the mood to spend hours putting them down and storing after Christmas.
