Rain, wind, and Fire

The good state of Georgia finally got some much needed rain. We had some cities that had gone 44 days without a rain drop. My own area went 35 days, breaking a record that was set during the dust bowl.
Fires often come with a long drought and we have some of those going on as well. The last report I heard said that the wild fires in the GA Mountains are 93% contained, and they expect to be fully contained in the next few days. Needless to say, the much needed rain really helped with that. We lost about 28,000 acres. The other wild fires in Rock Mountain are 58% contained and have torched almost 25,000 acres. We had a few weeks when they suggested people not be outside because of the smoke. There was so much smoke it seemed the fires were in my yard, but they are about three hours away form us.
I happened to be out shopping when the second day of rain came. It came down hard, winds and tornadoes blowing. Now, I am a person that when I decide something, that is how it will be. I decided I was going to do some Christmas shopping and that was what I was doing. So rain, sleet, or snow, here I go. What a wonderful day of shopping, everybody else stayed home and I had all the stores to myself woohoo! I got about 75% of my done and now to sit and order the rest. I got a bit wet but it was worth it.
I hope that you are all having a wonderful day and getting your shopping done as well. It is turning off a bit cooler now and the rain has passed. I am getting ready to light the second fire of the season.

@mom210 sounds like what we have had here. calming down the dust does help breathing. but when the humidity gets too high that don't help either. hope we get a happy medium soon. lol

I'm glad your fires are contained. They were bad this year by you and in neighboring Tennessee and I think I heard they were in the Carolinas as well.
It's a good feeling to have the Christmas shopping done. I started a couple days ago, but have a ways to go yet.

Wow I see in your bio that are a homeschooling mom of 10! I cyber school my son but my daughter goes to public high school. Are all the kids biologically yours or do you gave stepchildren and foster children? With that many kids I would never want to take them shopping with me my two are tough enough.

@shaggin There is a lady down the street with 13. I would have liked to have a nice dozen, but one of the twins has some health issues that still keep me very occupied. It really does not feel like a lot to me, in fact I was shocked the first time somebody called us a large family, I went who us?? Oh??!!

It is nice to go shopping without all of the competition. I hate those crowded shopping malls and stores. Glad Georgia received some much needed rain.

@mom210 I don't understand why people actually want to get out on those big shopping days. I have only been shopping on Black Friday once in my life. That was only because I was working with a client who wanted to go. I swore, never again!

@Shellyann36 My mother does it and always asked me to go, I tell her I would rather have my finger nails pulled out one by one.

I'm old and rarely shop. Our children are older so a stash of money is what they all get..then they can spend it the way they want to. I hate shopping for them because what do I know about the clothes they like, this way they can eat, drink or spend their Christmas money any way they want to. For a while I gave gift cards at their favorite stores but now decided cash is better... It's in an envelope hanging on the tree Christmas Morning in a pretty Christmas Card... We give them food and my art too, but the big thing is cash.

our weather here is somewhat fickle-minded. a while back, it was hot (sun was shining brightly) that is why our laundered clothes dried up fast. a few minutes ago, it rained hard again, good there are just a few clothes that are damp.

@mom210 that is why it is better to have a dryer with the washing machine because we can have our clothes dried indoors when it is raining outside

@ridingbet Very true, the sun is bring today. I am gonna give it another try. They are calling for snow Saturday, not gonna chance that day. My Kids are so excited it has not snowed here for about to years and I think 2011 was the last really good one.

we finally got rain yesterday. i was surprised cause sadly the last we got was several weeks of almost constant rain before my poor coco was put down and she hated going out and getting wet . then since we got no rain for 2 months so she would have loved that. what are the odds.

I certainly heard about all the fires in Georgia. Glad you were safe. My brother lives in Dublin. I'm sure I've told you that before.

@mom210 I have a lot of health complaints but I won't bother you with all that. Otherwise, I'm doing OK.

I'm glad you got the rain that you so badly needed. That's a lot of trees lost.

@mom210 Something is wrong with the weather. We either get too much or too little.

So much land was destroyed in 2016 (as well as animals and people) by fire and storms. Terrible to think about.

yikes, Hope you can lite up a nice little fire and stay warm. We just had a bit of an ice storm ourselves. We were suppose to get some snow. All my kids were SO excited but well, it did not happen for us. So they had a grand disappointment. I tried to keep them grounded, reminding them we really do not get much in the way of snow here. Maybe they will see some later this winter.
