What Scares You The Most?

United States

In this world of earthquakes, tornadoes, terrorists, plane crashes, forest fires, tsunamis, hurricanes and many other scary things, what scares you the most? Of course, I’m afraid of most of these things, but I don’t live in constant fear. I don’t like thunder storms with lightning and wind. I’m afraid that a tree will fall on the house or that lightning will strike the house. Tornados have been devastating many of the areas here in the U.S. and so when a tornado warning comes on the TV, I’m always anxious about that. I don’t think we have to worry about a tsunami here but right now forest fires are destroying thousands of acres in the U.S. It seems like there is always something going on to cause anxiety. Can you think of a time when you were REALLY scared? I’m also afraid of spiders. What scares you the most?

Being paralyzed from the neck down @IreneVincent (which is a possibility). Because of my severe spinal injuries, all it would take is a trip and fall or some jackass hitting my car from behind.

@nanette64 Lets' just hope and pray that it never happens to you. Be extra careful. What caused your spinal problems OR maybe you don't want to discuss that here.

My country has had most of the worst earthquakes ever recorded so I´m mostly scared of them.

@IreneVincent We have had some of the worst of the world. The biggest one was in Valdivia, when I was 15 years old. I was far from it, yet we felt it in my city.

@marguicha I have heard about earthquakes in Chile. I will research the one you mentioned in Valdivia.

Earthquakes are very scary. We had one here in Virginia a few years ago. It was very scary and so unexpected. Virginia is not known for earthquakes.

I think an earthquake would be really frightening as you have no idea where or when the earth might open up and swallow you. Tornadoes would be bad too - and dentists!

Oh I'm definitely in agreement with you about dentists.

@JohnRoberts I'm very sorry about your father. My brother didn't survive either. Cancer is a plague and I believe that the CAUSES of cancer are what we eat, drink and breathe unfortunately.

Every one is worried about something. Please consider it normal. We are humans not god. :)

This is TRUE. The older I get the more I worry.

Forget about age. feel young. Try to play with kids or watch cartoons. your problem seems to be slight loneliness.

@spaceseed I'm definitely not lonely. I have family all around me all the time and lots of friends. We get together often and play cards and I stay busy. I just worry about my family getting hurt some way. It comes with age. Worrying doesn't change anything, but I still do it, unfortunately.

My first hurricane was very scary, now I've grown accustomed to them. What I would hate to experience is a strong earthquake -- those come with no warning.

We had an earthquake here in Virginia a few years ago. It was very scary. I have also experienced earthquakes in Okinawa, Japan and in California.
